Changes is the sort of collaboration I never expected to encounter, despite the fact that both parties involved are from right here in the Bay Area. Antonio Williams, or Antwon, the hip hop artist from San Jose, unites with Kerry McCoy of San Francisco metal band Deafheaven on the surprise single, and the results are brilliantly rapturous and fabulously unique. Post-punk meets gauzy synthwave on Changes, all the while channeling a touch of Future Islands while WU LYF or LUH like bellowing spreads across its dreamy stratum. Changes isn’t the last we’ll hear from this peculiar pairing either. Antonio Williams and Kerry McCoy have a whole project to release named 25th St. Sessions, expected to arrive soon on Wavves’ label, Ghost Ramp. Very limited quantities of Changes on 7″ vinyl are available in the meantime, here.
