EVERY ‘BE YOUR GIRL’ REMiX I FIND IS FIRE and whereisalex is no exception to that rule! Kaytranada use to be my favorite version of the Teedra Moses classic, but holy shit, whereisalex has surpassed Kay as his version takes me to church.

The Gorillaz were legendary at Outside Lands Music Festival just a little over a week ago. Some say their Outside Lands performance was by far better than their Coachella ones. I wouldn’t be surprised, if so. Damon Albarn and his band lead a flurry of sensational guest artists on a massive headlining adventure that night, and despite how tired I was, and how cold it was (as usual) at Golden Gate Park, I found myself fixated till the very end of that stunning set. Those familiar with the songs off recent Gorillaz album Humanz know how upbeat and energetic many of its genre defying tracks are. Today, we delve into a remix of one such track, Strobelite featuring Peven Everett, by none other than esteemed and adored Canadian production prodigy Kaytranada. The producer is the perfect artist to tap for a Gorillaz remix. He leads the charge with a chic and stylish transformation of Strobelight that takes full advantage of its soulful R&B swagger. The original is available on iTunes, here.

I’m always overjoyed when Charli XCX releases new music, and I never know quite what to expect, having followed her career since her early electropop days. New song Boys is a sugary bop, and it comes with music video filled with endless celebrity and musician cameos. From Chromeo to Charlie Puth, Flume to G Eazy, Mac DeMarco to Brendan Urie, Kaytranada to Portugal. the Man, this one has them all. It’s loads of fun just to try and pick out everyone while bopping your head to the infectious pop song. Charli XCX directed the video herself, too. Boys is a fizzy light treat compared to the British artist’s prior release, her punchy mixtape Number 1 Angel. Grab the single, here.

It took some time, particularly since I’ve been such a long time fan of this man’s music, but I’ve finally grown accustomed to calling Nick Murphy by his given name rather than his now retired appellation, Chet Faker. The venerated Australian singer songwriter and producer shared a new EP earlier this week and announced a massive world tour for later this year, too. It seems like an eternity from now, but I’ve already purchased presale tickets for his stop in Oakland at the Fox Theater on October 16th. New EP Missing Link features five new tunes, including this stunning KAYTRANADA collaboration, Your Time. The song is all that we love about the man we once knew as Chet Faker… a rich evocative combination of trip hop, soul, and electronica. For another taste of his new EP, stream more momentous driving Forget About Me below. Missing Link can be streamed or purchased from major outlets, here.

Frisky sleek Only Girl is the latest song from fast rising Los Angeles based Columbian artist Kali Uchis. The hip hop, soul, and R&B number is a star studded affair, featuring guest appearances by The Internet’s Steve Lacy and Vince Staples. Only Girl is even produced by Kaytranada, making this a power packing punch of seductive and sassy music from Kali Uchis’ highly anticipated debut full length. There’s no doubt that the album is going to make a huge impact.

Obviously, a Kaytranada remix of Jamie Woon music is going to take us to new heights of silken pleasure. If you feel like floating up to cloud nine, submerge yourself in this underground ready remix of Sharpness. The Montreal producer’s laid back groove, jazzy funk, and clattering breakbeats are luxuriantly hypnotic and velveteen smooth. BADBADNOTGOOD turns in an alluring performance on those breakbeat drums. My only complaint is that this remix has been in existence since 2015, and we’re only hearing it now. Thank goodness it’s seen the light of day, or rather, the glow of a streetlamp at night.

If last month’s incredible star studded collaboration between Katy B, Four Tet, and Floating Points was any indication of what was to come, then it should be no surprise that the latest track revealed off Katy B’s upcoming album Honey is a collaboration with Kaytranada. On the title track of the album, Katy B sensually croons over the sort of swanky dusk electro production we adore about Kaytranada. Honey is a slow burning electro R&B scorcher, a sticky yet sleek jam that coils, gyrates, and snakes sultrily. Katy B’s highly anticipated Honey album drops April 29th. She’s gone a long way from her early dubstep days.

One more track for the night and this too is from the Bay Area. Ion The Prize wows in his inventive ‘My Cherie Amour’ remix. When I first heard this it gave me Kaytranada vibes that went into my ears and wanted to burst out my chest. Full of soul and that fills you up with the need to dance.

Rome Fortune and Kaytranada team up for ‘Dance’. Rome Fortune is a charismatic performer, as I found out when he opened for AlunaGeorge on the You Know You Like It tour’s stop in SF, and this song was the one I literally made a note of on my phone. Of course that was once I took a moment to stop dancing. He’ll be touring outside the states pretty soon and his Fool’s Gold LP is on the way.

It’s time to lift some spirits and get some feet shuffling with a new hip hop and electronic track from Chicago’s rising hip hop talent Mick Jenkins, who reunites with Montreal’s Kaytranada on Your Love. Swanky and swaggering good, Your Love is luscious and rich. It’s no surprise that Kaytranada delivers an opulent and inebriating experiencing as producer. Your Love is from Mick Jenkins’ new Wave[s] EP, out now on iTunes.
