It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to Kanye West’s Power, that iconic song off his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Australia’s Joe Mason brings it back with a fresh new edit that melds his remix of Stalgia’s BDY together with the Kanye original. The end chimera is a unique and charged experience, a rhythmic driving, expansive and cinematic future bass anthem interwoven with orchestral grandeur and an abundance of Ye intensity. If anyone’s looking “extra fly” right now, it’s Minno, and if anyone’s “touching the sky” in ecstasy, it’s me, riding high on the East Coast producer’s new remix of Kanye West classic Touch The Sky, featuring Lupe Fiasco. To be honest, it’s been ages since I’ve revisited Touch The Sky, or anything off of Late Registration. That era feels like it was many lifetimes ago. Kanye has evolved through so many different artistic states since that release. I mean, he’s (supposedly) holed up like Justin Vernon in a log cabin in the woods right now to write the next iteration of his music! Minno brings back some old school Ye with his remix, but this Touch The Sky has been transmuted into a horn blaring, synth shuddering modern trap anthem. Minno’s remix of Touch The Sky is a free download, here.

There’s no doubt Kacy Hill’s debut album Like A Woman is going to be magnificent, and it won’t be too long before it finally arrives. The full length will drop on June 30th via G.O.O.D. Music / Def Jam Recordings, and it’s executive produced by none other than a man whom many worship as a god, Kanye West. The Los Angeles starlet has released a striking music video for her current single and the title track off the album. Like A Woman’s lyrics are painted onto Kacy Hill in the video, directed by J.A.C.K. It serves to further emphasize the expressiveness and eloquence of her grand soaring pop ballad. You can pre-order her debut full length, here.

Madnap proves to be a mad genius when it comes to renovating Kanye’s hit single Heartless. The Los Angeles based producer can count me in as a new fan now that I’ve experienced the whomping brilliance of his latest remix. Madnap’s future bass and wavy trap transformation percolates and bubbles dreamily with trickling keys, ethereal chimes, and vacillating synths. It’s a heavenly contemporary electronic approach on a timeless (and divisive) Kanye classic that takes us to great heights of sonic pleasure. Download Madnaps remix for free here, and check out more of the producer’s music on Soundcloud.

Last Night is the first gorgeous single from Los Angeles chanteuse AMARA’s debut EP, Kaolin. Get ready for some stunning jazzy pop as she takes us into a mysterious and haunting world redolent of some of Lana Del Rey’s glamorously romantic music. Kaolin is due out digitally on August 1st. AMARA previously impressed with her Kanye cover, Only One, which you can stream below via YouTube. Over the next five months, AMARA will release her debut album Porcelain as a trio of EPs – Kaolin, Fluxes, and Vitrify.

I had to hop on and share this right away, because it’s the most surprising thing to arise in a very long time. It’s also very, very good. Ladies and gents, kids and kiddos, behold brand new Francis and the Lights that features both Bon Iver and Kanye. Friends surfaced just now via a minimalist music video. The artists’ spacious use of the video set’s floor and their finely nuanced movement in the clip remind me of Christine and the Queens. As I’m enveloped by the trio’s lustrous indietronica gem, I start to feel like one of the group, a friend to these friends, a player on their intimate stage. Their sweet soothing song infuses my day with some shiver inducing, sublimely dreamy feels. Of course, a song that involves both Kanye and Justin Vernon wouldn’t be right without the use of a vocoder. Friends is a fabulous collaboration between New York indie pop act Francis and the Lights and two talented household names. Except, the unexpected combination of genius doesn’t stop there. Friends was co-written with Rostam Batmanglij (formerly of Vampire Weekend). It’s also produced by a bevy of recognized artists, including Cashmere Cat, Ariel Rechtshaid, Benny Blanco, and more. I never expected this Thursday to be so epic, but here we are…

Apparently, beloved Canadian mainstays Stars are in the midst of releasing some covers, and the latest one they’ve revealed is a pleasant surprise. Stars offers up a beautiful cover of Kanye West’s Streetlights, giving it a misty eyed glow. The downtempo piano and synth ballad tugs hard on my heart strings, renewing my love for the baroque pop veterans.

I know I keep mentioning how upset I am about missing certain shows while I’m going abroad later this month, but I can’t help it, because I honestly hurt from knowing what I’ll be AWOL from. Call it FOMOing, call it what you want, but I’m certainly sad that I won’t be here for either of the sold out Marina and the Diamonds and Christine and the Queens nights in San Francisco late this month. Having falling head over heels with charismatic, talented French act Christine over the course of the year, I find much solace in the fact that she’s revealed the album version of her song Paradis Perdus, which seamlessly cover mashes together Kanye’s Heartless and Christophe’s Les Paradis Perdus. Prepare for a breathtaking, heart wrenching experience as Christine blends the two songs into a despondently beautiful ballad. And I highly beseech you to catch Christine live if you ever get the chance. She’s the full artistic package, and you won’t be able to take your eyes off the stage. Christine and the Queens will be releasing her US debut album on October 16th. Guess who’s getting it? Of course! Pre-order on iTunes.

I only encountered Arizona’s Y//2//K half a year ago, but I’m incredibly grateful I did, because the producer offers up some fresh tracks that stand out from the pack. On his latest tune, he enlisted his buddy ronaldreagen, a producer from Los Angeles, to craft an out of the box remix of Kanye West classic Love Lockdown. Sure, it’s a song that’s been remixed and covered by half the world, with one of my favorite live covers coming from Glass Animals, but this

deep, snapping

future house and future bass rendition shoots right to the top of that long list. The original is already a dramatic piece, I mean, come on, it’s Yeezus. But Y//2//K and ronaldreagen transforms it into a steely, jagged monster of an intense track. It’s a far cry from some of the atmospheric, chill trap music I encountered on Y//2//K’s Soundcloud previously, demonstrating the rising producer’s versatility. I’m riding high on my Warriors’ Western Conference Finals win in the NBA Playoffs, and what better song to share right now than one remixed by Oakland’s own KRNE? The producer dropped an edit of Kanye’s unreleased track Wolves. Fittingly enough, Yeezus was in attendance at Oracle tonight, along with Lil B The Based God. The music deities were on the Dubs side indeed. KRNE expertly morphs Wolves into a dramatically atmospheric future bass and trap jam, while enlisting MOONZz for the vocals on the booming, thumping flip. It’s a magnificent edit well worthy of a triumphant evening.
