It’s a splendid Friday for fans of Phantogram like me. Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter have surprised us with two new tracks, one an original, one a Sparklehorse cover. All proceeds from the new two-track single go to a very good cause, one that’s far too relevant lately considering all the dear people we’ve been losing, both in our personal lives and within the music scene. The single benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). For Sarah Barthel, who lost her own sister to suicide back in 2016, this is all too personal. Steam new song Someday above, which sees the typically trip hop and electro-rock duo go a dreamy meditative route. Their gorgeous cover of Sparklehorse’s Saturday can be streamed below.

October is going to begin in a rather epic fashion. Not only do I get to see my favorite trip hop and electro-gaze band headline the Fox Theater in Oakland on October 5th, but that very same band, Phantogram, will be dropping their eagerly anticipated new album THREE the Friday after the show! It’s going to be exciting hearing the new material live before the album arrives. We have, after all, already fallen hard for so many tracks revealed off of THREE. And I have a feeling the costumes, lights, and stage persona prepared for Phantogram’s new tour are going to be over the top imaginative. You’re Mine is Sarah and Josh’s latest treat from the LP, an abrupt throbbing pulse of glitchy soulful trip pop. If you haven’t ordered your copy of THREE yet, snag it here on iTunes.

In a couple months, Phantogram will be releasing their new album THREE, and I’m nearly holding my breath as I look forward to that fateful day. Sarah and Josh have decided to unleash a new cut off the record as we wait. Cruel World is a more subdued and doleful listen compared to some of the duo’s vivacious music they’ve put out with Big Boi or what we’ve heard from THREE so far. Despite its momentary simplicity, an abundance of signature Phantogram trip hop and glitch pop kick in gloriously alongside Sarah’s downcast singing just the same. The contrast is exhilarating, hitting us like well crafted, perfectly timed drops. The woeful ode to the darker side of life cuts to the bone. After all, we all have broken and anguished moments when life seems hopelessly unfair. THREE can be pre-ordered now from iTunes or Phantogram’s webstore ahead of its October 7th release.

Phantogram is pretty far up on my list of favorite bands and artists. Their unique and edgy mixture of trip hop, glitch pop, and electropop never disappoints, just as their most recent single You Don’t Get Me High Anymore grips and enthralls. As we eagerly await seeing Sarah and Josh perform their new music at the Fox Theater in Oakland on October 5th and look forward to Phantogram’s new album THREE, let’s get lost in the band’s magnificent new video for restless intoxicating You Don’t Get Me High Anymore. It’s certainly an other worldly clip full of destruction and abstract intrigue. THREE will be out on September 16th.

Though Phantogram has kept themselves very busy as guests on songs and with their Big Boi collaboration project Big Grams, it’s been a long few years since we last heard a true Phantogram song. Us ravenous fans have been eagerly awaiting the emergence of a new song. You Don’t Get Me High Anymore is that long fantasized return, and it comes with the announcement of the duo’s third full length, Three, as well as an accompanying tour that brings them to the Fox Theater in Oakland on October 5th. Needless to say, this devoted fan of the American trip hop and electro-rock duo is doing cartwheels in celebration. Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter do not disappoint on You Don’t Get Me High Anymore, not that they’ve ever been disappointing and likely never will. They’ll always get me high on their music. You Don’t Get Me High Anymore is woozy dark and bustling heavy, exactly the sort of Phantogram I need and love. I can’t get enough of this song. The more I listen to it, the more I want to listen to it. Oh, how I still love you so, Phantogram.

OFFICIAL VID: Phantogram – Fall In Love

February 12, 2014

Let’s follow up my previous post’s “heartbreak” with some love, shall we? New York duo Phantogram’s Fall In Love made me do exactly that when I first heard it on the radio. It was a radio exclusive for far too long before I had the privilege to share the audio with you, but now, I get to do a little redux of sorts, thanks to the official music video released this week. It’s off the duo’s sophomore album Voices, easily one of my most eagerly anticipated albums of the year. Voices comes out next week on Tuesday, and I’m tearing the shrink wrap off that one the moment it arrives on my doorstep! Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter’s trip hop styled electronic rock and raspy vocals have melted my ears for years now, having bowled me over with their 2009 debut album Eyelid Movies. They’re about to do that again with Voices. We’ve all been waiting so patiently for it.

OFFICIAL VID: Phantogram – Black Out Days

December 19, 2013

Is there anyone not in love with New York duo Phantogram’s new tunes lately? I was utterly bowled over by how great Black Out Days is when we first heard it in January. Then recently, Fall In Love made me do exactly that, all over again. I was already such a devoted fan to their debut album Eyelid Movies back in 2009. I seriously can not wait for sophomore album Voices (first on a major label, Republic) on February 18, and what a long wait for us fans it has been. They seem incapable of doing wrong with their addicting trip hoppy electronic rock music. There’s something so seductive and captivating about Sarah Barthel’s vocals that I’ll never be able to get over. Watch Sarah and Josh’s new video for Black Out Days below, and get ready to be entrapped again.

Phantogram – Fall In Love

December 10, 2013

Oh, hooray, time to celebrate! Phantogram has finally unveiled their amazeballs new song Fall In Love, which I’ve been hearing on Live 105 weekly but couldn’t get my hands on to share, since it was a radio exclusive for what seemed like forEVER! The track will be on their new album Voices, which I’ve been waiting forEVER for, too! Voices comes out February 18 on Republic. You don’t know how often I’ve actually been checking to see what the deal was with the new album and whether I could pre-order yet. I’m so looking forward to it. It’s been years since Eyelid Movies. Fall In Love is a captivating, hypnotizing synthpop track by Phantogram, filled with their signature trip hoppy, shadowy, electronic rock sound and Sarah Barthel’s signature, raspy vocals. It’s too good. Too, too good.
