Daley featuring Jessie J

December 15, 2012

So, I just stumbled upon this British soul singer named Daley who seems to be gaining some buzz over in the UK. A month ago, he released a new tune titled Remember Me which features none other than songstress Jessie J on the track. He’s got some funk and groove for sure. Here they are performing the track live. Daley is working on a debut album for the spring.

My curiosity is very much piqued. Here’s the HQ official video:

He has one more silky smooth soulful R&B tune out, titled Alone Together which features Marsha Ambrosius. It’s some super sexy stuff.

Bat for Lashes covers Rihanna

October 12, 2012

Regardless if you’re a fan of Rihanna or not, there’s no doubt that you’ve 😉 many of you have enjoyed the song We Found Love at some point or another. It’s just too well made of a pop song not to like. The melody is way too catchy and pleasant. Bat For Lashes’ Natasha Khan joined the ranks of many last night on BBC Radio when she offered up her own version of the Rihanna anthem. And BOY what an offer it is! Holy crap! Personally, I’ve found a lot of the covers of this song to hold much more than the original Rihanna cut. Just listen to this. Listen! It’s amazing. She brings her own sound to it and makes it much more mournful and emotive. You gotta agree, Rihanna isn’t exactly the most “emotive” artist out there. I’ll tack on a few more awesome covers of the song I’ve liked and shared in the past. Get ready for We Found Love extravaganza!!! Each of the below has a completely different feel and sound. Love them all.

OFFICIAL VID: Jessie J – Laserlight ft. Dave Guetta

April 10, 2012

Laserlight is one of the last singles off of Jessie J’s breakout album Domino, and it’s a great pop track featuring none other than dance music beatmaster Dave Guetta. Some of the stuff he puts out with the big names is wayyy too contrived for me, but I’m partial to Jessie J since she’s actually very talented and can sing up a storm. Laserlight is a fun song and joins the ranks of so many pop and dance tracks that have to do with light in some way or another. Now, where’s the dubstep remix?

Jessie J on BBC 1 Radio Live Lounge covers Rihanna

February 19, 2012

The latest Jessie J single off her album Domino will be the title track. Here she performed a great rendition on BBC 1 Radio’s Live Lounge. She also did a great cover of Rihanna’s We Found Love. This woman can SING. I like her version more than Rihanna’s. As you can see, she’s grown her hair out and got rid of her signature hair cut. Looks good and makes her seem “softer”.

Not the most exciting video, but here’s Jessie J’s official one for her song Domino. The pop star may remind people of Katy Perry, but her voice and talent far exceeds that of Perry (whom I believe is more talented than she seems but doesn’t really show that nowadays, as she started out as an acoustic singer songwriter in small venues). The song Domino is alright though, not the best I’ve heard from Jessie J. It’s definitely very mainstream Perry-esque pop.

Beautiful Ed Sheeran cover of Who You Are

This is a gorgeous cover of Jessie J’s Who You Are from English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. I can imagine there’s so much you can do with covers of this track. This one is a simple, sweet, acoustic cover.

I may have shared this before, but I’m still so in love with the New York subway performance of the track by Jessie J. She harbors a lot more talent than some of you folks realize. I wrote her off initially as likely another exuberant pop princess, but when I delved deeper, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. Here’s the subway performance…

Just caught wind that James Morrison collaborated with Jessie J. Here’s the official video for Up. Pretty enjoyable stuff. I have a lot of respect for both artists.

jessie J

I guess they decided to go with a live video for the song. This must have been when she had a broken ankle or leg or whatever it was, when she was performing sitting down in that throne thing. Jessie J’s voice is absolutely amazing, though it’s a little bit similar to Katy Perry’s, but better. And she is extremely unique and creative. If you didn’t know, check out some of her other work. Some of her music has a tinge of Sleigh Bells and MIA in em. I’ll share a fave video I have of hers below where she performed in a New York subway station before Price Tag and some other stuff helped her attain some level of fame in the US, but nowhere close to her stardom in the UK. I’m pretty sure she’s much more widely known now around here though? Am I right? She was the house DJ/performer for the MTV Video Music Awards this year and was on SNL and stuff…

Here’s the New York Boombox series performance of Who You Are:
