I gladly re-visited The xx’s latest album I See You whilst I was out in the beauty of the wilderness a few weekends ago after a long time away, and I was quickly reminded of how immense a release it is. On Hold is one of the album’s stand out tracks. Who else, but Jamie xx himself has given the song an unexpected remix that emphasizes the trio’s brilliance? On Hold gets a hypnotic and glorious workover brimming with Jamie xx’s signature underground sound. Step into the dark club, get on the dance floor, and contort your body in visceral pleasure to the remix, which even comes with a freshly minted music video. Jamie xx’s remix of On Hold is available now on limited 12″ white vinyl from The xx’s store, here.

If you haven’t watched the new video for The xx’s I Dare You yet, and I have countless times since yesterday, prepare for some awesome cameos and a sweet visual ride. I Dare You is of course one of the many splendid tunes from The xx’s most recent album, I See You. Its video stars Paris Jackson as well as everyone’s favorite Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown, and its a magnificent ode to the city of Los Angeles. “I’ve been a romantic for so long,” sings Romy Madley Croft on their song. So true. That’s probably why I find this video so appealing, and one of the reasons I love music so much.

A deluxe edition of The xx’s third album I See You was released digitally earlier today, and the extended version of the record features three new tracks. That’s right, you have three fresh tunes from The xx to enjoy this lovely weekend! In actuality, two are unreleased treats, and one is a stripped down rendition of I See You cut Brave For You, and quite a stunning one at that. Naive, which you can stream above, samples Drake’s Doing It Wrong, and it features ever harmonious vocals from both Oliver Sims and  Romy Madley Croft. Seasons Run, which I’ve tacked on below, is quite the dreamy strummer on which Oliver takes the lead. The video for the “Marfa Demo Version” of Brave For You can also be found below. It’s an intimate moment with one of the world’s favorite bands, who now has the capacity of selling out multi-night stops at massive venues, as they proved recently on tour. The new deluxe version of I See You is available from iTunes, here.

Little needs to be said when something as incredible as a Four Tet remix of The xx arises. Prodigious English electronic musician Kieran Hebden presents us with a transcendental remake of I See You cut A Violent Noise. Four Tet’s dusky clattering, hypnotic thumping interpretation melds garage with trance. I find myself longing for my raving days as I close my eyes and imagine myself on a dark dance floor in a fog filled basement. Sharp lasers slice through that heavy mist as flashing strobes capture images of ecstatic writhing bodies. Time loses all relativity in the presence of Four Tet’s mystical remix. You can also stream the track via Soundcloud below.

Just in case you missed the massive news this morning, here’s the new The xx. Fans of the beloved English trio have been tensely waiting for new music ever since The xx has been teasing mysterious new snippets of music online. The tender wistfulness we’re all so familiar with when it comes to Romy and Oliver’s gentle duets joins a limber punching groove, courtesy of who else, but Jamie xx. On Hold is truly a sublime treat, a soothing and moving gem, during such a ravaging week of taut wired emotion. Here’s what The xx said themselves upon revealing On Hold and news of their next album:

After many years, close together, far apart, great highs, deep lows, heartache and healing, we are so happy to let you know we are releasing our 3rd album ‘I See You’ on January 13th 2017.

We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way.  Our first single ‘On Hold’ is available now:

Excited to see you all very soon.xx The xx

I’ve never been able to resist Drake and Rihanna’s Take Care, largely due to the fact that it heavily utilizes and samples Jamie xx and the late great Gil-Scott Heron’s I’ll Take Care Of U, a song I’ll adore for all eternity. Drake puts the song to good use on mega hit Take Care, which I unexpectedly re-encountered today in a very different form, thanks to this fantastic remix by German production duo GAMPER & DADONI. The producers take those Jamie xx Balearic house beats and amps them up, infusing the track with an extra plentiful dose of breezy house vibrancy. It’s impossible not to get up and move to this laid back deep dance treat. Download the remix for free from MGM Records, here.

Wolfskind has brought us some ridiculous good remixes in the past, and he continues that tradition with a fusion track of epic proportions. On Black Swan, the German producer combines Jamie xx’s balmy underground temperament with the glamorous soulfulness of Adele, utilizing samples from both to lay deep house and dark garage siege on our hearts. The dreamy entrancer is available to download, here.

Sara Hartman, as you likely recall if you’ve been following my eager shares on IHM, is the German based New York songstress who swooped out of nowhere to capture our hearts with magnificent pop debut, Monster Lead Me Home. Though a far more subdued and chill number, her second song, a cover of Jamie xx’s Stranger In A Room carries the same emotional punch within its slowly building, sparse beauty. Stranger In A Room takes on a new ambient pop shade of misty crispness on the arresting cover.

Jamie xx’s Loud Places, featuring fellow The xx bandmate Romy on ever divine vocals, was one of my top songs of 2015. In fact, the album it came from, Jamie xx’s In Colour, was my number one album of the year. For a more club floor heavy rendition of Loud Places, we turn to Austin’s CLOUDCHORD. The producer gives Loud Places more four to the floor body on a thrilling deep and melodic makeover, saturated with Balearic sunshine. Download the remix for free, here.

I’ve been one of the lucky ones who’ve previously caught Jamie xx and Four Tet side by side at a club, a true meeting of music brilliance in one night. I’m brought back to that magic by Four Tet’s new re-imagining of Jamie xx’s Seesaw, which features his The xx bandmate Romy. The original comes off of my number one album of 2015, Jamie xx’s debut full length, In Colour. Four Tet takes Seesaw for a mesmerizing, ethereal spin on his alternate mix. The club rework reminds me of Caribou’s music, but gauzier and soupier. I feel as if I’m traversing a surreal dream. I’m floating down a shimmering river under a clouded sky, and the whole world is softly wavering between various hues of pastel. I don’t want to wake up from this dream.
