OFFICIAL VID: Jamaica – Two On Two

March 19, 2014

French rock duo Jamaica’s jangly Two On Two is off a sophomore album titled Ventura, out soon on March 31. It’s a welcome return from the band, and as before, their sound reminds me of fellow French acts Phoenix and Housse De Racket. There’s a delicious sunny pop vibe to the cheery tune. Watch the video for Two On Two below, and also check out another album track, the catchy Hello Again.

OFFICIAL VID: Van She – Jamaica

August 28, 2012

Zomg, I almost fell asleep at my desk listening to some chill music. Let’s just say I was silent yesterday because I was busy on a trip somewhere and it was a very exhausting weekend. Let’s spruce things up a bit with the upbeat Jamaica by Van She. A video was just released for the breezy synthpop tune today, and I just found out earlier that they’ll be playing a Popscene show in San Francisco come October. The only problem? It’s the same night I already have tickets for a Freelance Whales and Geographer showcase at another small venue. Sigh. Guess I’ll have to figure out what to do as October approaches. We’ll see, buddies. We’ll see. In the meantime, this is no super banging Idea of Happiness (title track off the album on Modular), but I’m still pretty fond of very 80’s new wave Jamaica.

Time for an awesome upbeat remix of Aussie electropop act Van She’s breezy Jamaica by Unicorn Kid. The remix is a sped up, less new wave-y, euphoric trance infused approach. I’ll throw the OG cut below again:

Snoop Lion

July 31, 2012

I know the news world is totally in a tizzy about the whole Snoop Lion affair (and I mean the WHOLE news world, not just the music news world). It’s splashed all over every news source, being debated by everyone, some think it’s lame, some don’t, yadda yadda yadda. We first got an inkling of what was going on about two weeks ago, when I posted Snoop’s La La La, the first preview off his Diplo/Major Lazer reggae collaboration. Today, we learned that there was a lot more to it… they have recorded a whole album together and the Dogg has announced to the world that he has, in fact, been reincarnated as Snoop Lion. His outlook as a reggae artist is one of positivity, and he wanted that reflected in his new name, despite all the money in the world tied into to the famous name Snoop Dogg. La La La was pretty good, so if there’s good music to backup this project, who’s to judge him for wanting to take a different direction artistically after SOOOO many long years of success as rap’s great Snoop Dogg? It’s not like Ron Artest or Ochocinco where it’s just some odd name change. It’s not like Puff Daddy to P Diddy to Diddy to whatever. There’s actually a huge artistic concept behind this. I say good for him. In the meantime, a trailer surfaced for a documentary film produced by VICE Films in partnership with Snoopadelic Films. It contains footage of Snoop’s trip to Jamaica where he recorded his album with Diplo. It shows his transformation, and supposedly, shows how that resulted in his “reincarnation”. Looks pretty good. Might be a nice one to catch, and let’s hear what comes next before we are too quick to judge, shall we? I’ll reshare La La La below as well.

I’m still very much in love with Australian band Van She’s Idea Of Happiness since it’s just such a fun, happy, summer indie synthpop tune. Here’s another track off their upcoming album. Jamaica is a great, breezy, 80’s invoking electropop song. I’ll tack on Idea of Happiness again, so it’ll get stuck in your head. 😉
