I was a little late to the game on this one, but London based producer Dusta enthralled me so much with some of his recent chill house remixes that I knew, I had to make sure some of you got up on this too. Dusta’s latest is a mellow and effervescent melodic house remix of Jakwob’s Blinding. Follow that beauty up with his tropical house remix of Goldroom’s Embrace, which is incredibly soothing yet uplifting, all at the same time. How these slipped by me previously, I have no idea, but I thank the music gods that I’ve ultimately encountered them.

English producer Jakwob, while busy with his new venture with FTSE, the previously featured synth-hardcore act Get Hot, is still keeping himself very busy with his own solo endeavors, as can be heard on this amazing drum and bass remix of Sinead Harnett’s Paradise. The percussion rolls, the playful melody, and Sinead Harnett’s soulful, beautiful vocals all come together to create a thrilling and divine experience. Paradise, indeed.

Once in awhile, something comes along that’s so fresh, that it leaves me with my head cocked to the side and my eyes wide open, staring at my monitor, as I allow the music to flow through the very center of my being. That’s exactly what happened when I encountered Get Hot earlier today, a duo made up of producers FTSE and Jakwob. Fight is their second single, and together, the two have crafted a sound they call “synth-hardcore”. Think electronica meets post-hardcore rock music to get an idea of what these fellas sound like together. It’s unique and rip roaring energetic, a bit like Death From Above 1979 meets Crystal Castles, with a touch of death metal and a pinch of Fall Out Boy. It’s some crazy stuff, and I know a few friends who would fall head over heels for this stuff. Coincidentally, Get Hot has just signed to Last Gang Records (who also have Crystal Castles and DFA 1979 on their roster) in North America. An album will be coming along in 2015, and it should be one of next year’s more interesting, exciting releases. Visit first single Drugs below. I’ll be watching as the buzz rises on this duo.

Whoa, I received a notification this morn from tumblr. I Heart Moosiq is 2 years old. Time flies. Thank you, loyal followers. Instead of a self indulgent happy birthday song or some crap like that, let’s just continue listening to damn good music, shall we? Stream the dope Jakwob remix of Dan Croll’s In/Out above. The English electronic producer sure knows how to take the already friggin’ good tune and make it deliciously post-dubsteppy. As for Dan Croll, I simply cannot wait to see him live come October!

Charli XCX Super Ultra Mixtape

November 7, 2012

Yup, one of my personal favorite UK “Disney grunge” goth pop artists released a promised new mixtape today titled Super Ultra. It’s a dark, syrupy, wicked listen and it’s free for all to download. A couple of the songs were previewed previously, and other ones sample some goodies and other awesome artists. Nommy nommy. Here’s her official announcement of the 8 track treat and where to download:

Hey everyone,

It’s here, the new mixtape SUPER ULTRA. DOWNLOAD IT FROM HERE ! ! !

Making it was an intense experience for me coz I basically wrote the whole thing whilst I was driving around in a car in Poland. I was only there for two days so everything is totally raw. All the songs are about love. Sometimes it’s stupid love and sometimes it’s heartbreaking love. It’s about being confused. In particular, GLOW is a really emotional song for me. I think I had my first proper breakdown when I wrote that song. I cried a lot.

I cried a lot whilst making this mixtape, which is funny because some of the songs seem quite light-hearted and a bit… I dunno… Gangster. To me they’re all sad songs in some way though. Some songs were inspired by moments in movies – like DANCE 4 U was inspired by the opening scene of Planet Terror, where Rose McGowan does the pole dance. I think that’s a really sad and desperate scene. It makes me cry when I watch it.

I guess that’s all just personal shit though. I don’t want people to be sad when they listen to SUPER ULTA… I want them to be happy, and I want them to dance. No one dances in this town anymore.

You can download the full SUPER ULTRA mixtape HERE. Just click it. The full track listing is:

CLOUD AURA FEAT. BROOKE CANDY //J£ZUS MILLION MOMENTS IN LOVE //ART OF NOISE VELVET DREAMING (LUV) //GIRAFFAGE DANCE 4 U //SINJIN HAWKE GLOW //BATHS HEATWAVE //JACKSON COLD NITES REMIX //HOW TO DRESS WELL FORGIVENESS //JAKWOB

In other news, I’m playing a DJ set at The Garage on 21st November. Tom Vek, Brenton and Coves are all playing live, it’s gonna be a wicked night. Tickets are HERE and are only a fiver.

I’m in the process of finishing up my record. It’s going to be incredible – I’m so proud of it. Thanks for being so patient with me. When it drops you’ll be the first to know.

CHARLI XCX

XXX

I can’t wait for her debut album. I really can’t.

EDIT: After listening through the whole dang thing, I’m loving it! Seriously! And I REALLY love the last track, the stand out Forgiveness. Dramatic, emotional, strong vocals, sexy, wonderful.

Jakwob’s The Prize (mixtape stream)

May 4, 2012

Jakwob’s new mixtape The Prize just dropped a couple days ago. Stream the whole thing below, or download from his official website. I guess it’s kind of a hip hop and electronic day on here, huh? The mixtape consists of a lot of songs the UK dubstep producer has been working on recently, of which many are in collaboration with other talented artists (ie. Roses Gabor, Ghostpoet, Kano, Youngman, and so on). He stated on his website that the mixtape is a clue of what’s to come for his next full length album. I just started streaming the thing and it sounds pretty dang good already. There’s some great r&b/dubstep stuff (think James Blake), some harder dubstep stuff,  some soulful hip hop electronica, you name it. I’m finding it hard to pause the stream to work on other things as the day draws to a close. Props to the talented UK producers, as always.
