There are many James Blake songs I’ll probably love fully until my dying day. Retrograde, off 2013′s excellent album Overgrown, is one such tune. London’s Jagara, previously known as Jagaara the first time we shared their music back in 2015, have presented us with an immense cover of Retrograde. The sisters’ hauntingly created their own version of the song by fusing alt pop, trip hop, and funk tinged electronica. Does it do Retrograde justice? More than yes. I have a feeling their cover, which is reminiscent of Portishead and Hælos, is going to be on repeat for a long time to come. Re-visit Jagara’s originals on Soundcloud, here.

This London trio, whom we last gushed over back in 2015, seem to be on the cusp of a brand new journey. Not only have they changed their name from Jagaara to Jagara, but the three sisters have embraced a more silky sensuous, electro opulent sound on ravishing single Real Love. This dreamy weightless, chiffon sailing gem evokes Alpines gone satiny WET, with a touch of Shura’s fleeciness, all lined with HÆLOS’ trip hop beat. The gorgeous single is available from iTunes, here.

I’m very grateful to have been keyed into a new emerging act from London named Jagaara. The sister trio instantly spellbound me with new single In The Dark, an exquisitely emotive gem. Its minimalist, sparse qualities remind me of acts like Daughter and The Night VI, perhaps also due to an expansive elegance. But there’s a cinematic and strong nature to the song that reminds me of Australia’s The Jezabels, an act I’m much devoted to. Both meltingly beautiful and poignantly gut wrenching, In The Dark has me holding my breath and fully intoxicated. Jagaara will be releasing the song for Record Store Day, along with a Foals remix of their song Heartbreakers as the B-side.
