Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek holds a very special place in my heart. Not only was I once incredibly addicted to the brilliant artist’s finely layered, vocoder treated harmonies, but this song was a pivotal part of The O.C.’s soundtrack back in the days when I was obsessed with the show and its tragic plot. So when I saw that rising production talent Bishu had re-worked the track, my heart fluttered with excitement. And I fell hard again for Hide and Seek as I waded into this exceptionally crafted electronic rendering of the song. As much as I’m reeling under a heavy hit of nostalgia, this trap and bass Hide and Seek lifts me out from under that weight with its jarring drops and vigorous chops, leaving me beaming in ecstasy. Bishu created his track as part of his childhood remix series. Download this magnificent chapter, here.

Like a blast from the past comes this new edit of Frou Frou classic Let Go, which was certainly a transformative track for me back in the early 2000′s. Though Frou Frou didn’t last long, I went on to become quite obsessed with Imogen Heap. It’s mighty fine to hear her voice again as Aylen gives Let Go a superb remix that takes the song into breakbeat and dubstep territory. Frou Frou has never been more gloriously cathartic on this metallic shuddering, bass wobbling remix, yet the producer also manages to retain the original’s sleek groove and melodic allure. Grab the remix for free, here.

I’ve been in love with Imogen Heap’s creative sonic artistry for many years now, and I’m quite glad that her music has inspired some visionary new tracks as of late, including San Francisco producer BLU J’s HDLCK and this new operatic intense remix of Headlock by NYC’s Modern Machines. The whirring future bass and progressive chords on Modern Machine’s remix go hand in hand with the producer’s alliterative moniker. Imogen Heap’s Headlock receives a state of the art electronic dance treatment under the tender loving care of Modern Machines. His Headlock is impenetrable and exhilarating, a euphonious space symphony. Download the track for free, here.

BLU J straight “blu” me away with HDLCK. The producer from right here in San Francisco has quickly risen in the ranks of my producers to watch list in the past year, and he’s certainly reaching the crest with this magnificent take on Imogen Heap’s Headlock. Her unique voice has never been more bewitching in this fantasy world of deep future house that BLU J has constructed. There’s a distinct ZHU vibe going on as the track bounces and chops, simmers and ignites. HDLCK is a free download from Toneden.

Chagall’s TMTL is darkly ominous yet hauntingly seductive, and we can magnify those qualities even more by viewing the electronic artist’s simple but eerie new music video for the sensual but tense ballad. TMTL is the first track from the London based Dutch producer’s debut Stray Flux EP, out June 29th. It’s a record created using the glove that came from Imogen Heap’s brilliant electronic glove project in 2014. Chagall will be performing her EP live this summer with the glove.

Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s been many years since she first made me fall head over heels with the seren and graceful song, but let’s turn back time, sort of, by listening to this weightless and buoyant remix by Denver’s Bass Physics. As if the original wasn’t already ethereal enough, the production duo take it to even more ethereal levels of radiant ambiance. They infuse the track with their own live guitars and beats, updating the song into an intoxicating future bass and chill melodic gem.

As someone who adores Imogen Heap’s artistry and music, I couldn’t help but be drawn to Jason Derülo’s hit song Whatcha Say, since it heavily sampled from her beloved song Hide and Seek. My only wish was that more people knew how pivotal her role was in that mega hit. It’s been awhile now since that song was literally playing like, everywhere, but a young French producer named noï gives us plenty of reason to revisit the song, but in a newly edited, magnificently re-worked form. The remix is a luscious future bass meets R&B reformat of the original that will have you falling in love with Imogen Heap’s vocoder harmonies and Jason’s verses all over again, if not for the first time ever.

I’ve been wondering for a very long time what was going on with the new album promised by brilliant British musician Imogen Heap. It seems to have been in the works for ages. She even traveled to Hangzhou, China, for a residency to create new music, and that was a long time ago. Finally, today, she announced her fourth solo album Sparks, to be released August 18. For those unfamiliar with Imogen, she was once one half of the now defunct Frou Frou, then went on to give us some amazing solo tunes over the course of the past decade, showcasing a very eccentric, artsy sound. You can hear some of that ethereal magic in her new song Run-Time, an intricate, many layered song that meanders through so many different sounds and emotions. It is indeed other wordly, though far more lush and synthy than some of my favorite Imogen Heap songs from the 2000’s, like Goodnight And Go, or Hide And Seek, which soundtracked so many television series and movies back in the day. I’m very curious to hear more of the new release, now that we know it’s coming soon!
