HUSBANDS took time to release a Christmas album last month, but there’s no dilly dallying when it comes to these two musicians from Oklahoma. They kick off the new year strong by breaking out of the gates with a dreamy whirring, wavy swirling effusion of shoegaze, synthpop, and indietronica on No One’s Dreaming. It’s a sweetly inebriating gem with slivers of Yoke Lore and some early lo-fi Youth Lagoon wafting through its beautifully glimmering soundscape. You can snag the song from Bandcamp, here. No One’s Dreaming was recorded for a cassette release in collaboration with OBNEAC of Norman, Oklahoma.

There’s no resisting new HUSBANDS for a synthwave loving head like me. Neuromancer’s rich glowing, wavy splendorous pop is joined by surf rock jangles much reminiscent of Beach Boys with a dash of Day Wave. The now Oklahoma City based duo’s carefree dreamy bedroom pop song is the first they’ve completed since they’ve lived in the same city. They started strumming on the balcony during a hot day, trying out bits of Beach Boys and Devo over their summery guitar as they forged the song. After adding in a bass line, guitar solo, and synth hook, they came up with this jovial delight. Neuromancer can be purchased from Bandcamp.

It’s time for some good ol’ scuzzy fun as we dive into Husbands’ Chewy, a crumbly crunchy tidbit indeed. The bedroom pop and garage rock band was formed by a duo whose members hail from both Oklahoma City and Washington, D.C. I set aside my competitive spirit for the moment (considering the Western Conference Finals going on right now between my Warriors and the Thunder) and throw all caution into the wind as I let Chewy take me on a laid back surf adventure. Chewy is a catchy jangling lo-fi delight, and it’s available now from Bandcamp.

French electronic duo Dim Sum remixes Husbands – ‘Where is My Ego’. Be careful because it’ll slowly seduce you. Actually, don’t be careful, let the sound waves control your vibes and get in tune with that nu-disco-pop life.

OFFICIAL VID: Savages – Husbands

There’s several awesome bands playing two sold out nights in San Francisco this weekend, and one of them is London post-punk rock band Savages. I had tickets to their sold out show for Friday night, but I HAVE to see Until the Ribbon Breaks, Lorde, Jaymes Young (hopefully) and London Grammar that night, so I attempted to trade for their Sunday show to no avail. I’ll be missing a rambunctious, raucous, explosive rock show. It’s too bad all these must sees are all on the same weekend! Savages released a music video for their frenetic, noisy song Husbands, which is off their fantastic, critically acclaimed album Silence Yourself. It’s one of those songs that ends abruptly and leaves you hungering for much, much more.
