A large part of the music-loving world is basking in joy now that Florence + the Machine has announced a release date for new album High As Hope. And I’m sure, like us, you can’t wait for it’s arrival on June 29th. In case you haven’t heard the second song Florence Welch has revealed from the album yet (after enthralling us with breathtaking first song Sky Full Of Song), let’s all watch the A.G. Rojas directed video for Hunger together. We get a magnificent dose of Florence’s incomparable voice and her intimate, raw lyricism on the song which explores themes involving acceptance, community, and joy. “This song is about the ways we look for love in things that are perhaps not love, and how attempts to feel less alone can sometimes isolate us more,” says Florence. “I guess I made myself more vulnerable in this song to encourage connection, because perhaps a lot more of us feel this way than we are able to admit. Sometimes when you can’t say it, you can sing it.” I can’t wait to see Florence + the Machine headline at Outside Lands Music Festival this August. She’s such a spectacular performer, a goddess bursting with contagious vitality and vigor, and her glorious baroque pop always lifts us towards the heavens. Pre-order High As Hope, here.

UK four piece Morning Smoke continue to give us some deliciously gloomy rock courtesy of a new video for their latest song Stephanie I. The track is the B-side to previously featured song Hunger, out right now. As before, they evoke some Sonic Youth, Eagulls, and even Joy Division on the fuzzy, scuzzy, gritty post punk gem. Let’s revisit Hunger below, while we’re here.

Are you a fan of Sonic Youth? The Smiths? Eagulls? Joy Division? The Drums? Even… Placebo and some early The Strokes? If you are, you’re going to love this new gloomy rock single Hunger, from Brighton four piece Morning Smoke. The young band is capturing some growing buzz back at home, and they’ve certainly succeeded in winning me over with this dreamy, reverb laden song. Hunger will be on a double-a single with Stephanie I, out December 1 in the UK. I’ll be waiting for the Stephanie I reveal, but in the meantime, why don’t we listen to the aptly named Melancholy, one of Morning Smoke’s early few tunes from last year?

You might find the name Sam Sure familiar. That’s probably due to the fact that the soulful crooner was featured on TCTS’ electronic song You. Well, Sam’s launched his solo project, and he’s about to drum up a whole lot of buzz with debut song Hunger. The electronic pop song is probably my favorite new original track of the day, showcasing some spectacular production and remarkably smooth vocals. The song and some remixes will drop officially on October 20 via Black Butter Records. I’ll keep an ear out for the remixes, of course.

OFFICIAL VID: Born Gold – Hunger

July 26, 2013

Here’s the odd but endearing new music video for Born Gold’s single Hunger. The Canadian experimental pop act previously known as Gobble Gobble is the solo project of producer Cecil Frena, who has worked with fellow Canadian buddies Grimes, Purity Ring, and many others in the past. The new single is an off kilter, tweaky, strange little digital/art pop tune that works wondrously. It’s well worth a listen. Or two. Or three. Born Gold drops a new album titled I Am An Exit on October 8.
