A song crafted from heartbreak, hope, and stillness, Socal songstress Chrxstal pops back up on our radar with her new soul-pop R&B tune ‘Broken Wing’. Chrxstal was suffering from a form of a broken wing – writer’s block – when she heard a sample from Oshi’s Care Package and ended up writing this gorgeously drifting, soul soothing tune. Chrxstal will be performing April 7th in Riverside at Raquel’s Jazz Lounge.

We’ve been excited to share this huge new tune from Disco Shrine since we were afforded a serendipitous preview. The Los Angeles based pop starlet, also known for her DJing prowess and her crowd captivating stage performances, delves deeply into the personal on her aureate and luscious pop song Up In The Air. Slivers of retro synthpop and R&B pop vibes permeate the intoxicating ballad, giving us a nostalgic whiff of early Chairlift and even some Kate Bush in the process, alongside Up In The Air’s Say Lou Lou fluorescence and Shura plushness. Disco Shrine, or LA native Jessica Delijani, has crafted a ravishing single that’s very special to her. It’s about her parents immigrating to America after escaping the Iranian Revolution, and the struggles they encountered in order to start a new life here. The inspiring story behind Up In The Air is more than relevant in a day and time when our nation is struggling to cope with hate, exclusion, and pessimism. You can take this honeyed glowing, synth churning beauty for a spin via Spotify too, here.

In the final quarter of 2017, a new Scottish boy-girl duo named LOVE SICK blew a lot of tastemakers’ minds when they made their debut with Bullet, arguably one of last year’s best pop debuts. You can re-visit the track via our feature, here. So, how does one follow up such a smashing introduction and first release? By climbing charts and enthralling hearts with a second single like Hope, of course! The pair, who also announced their debut headlining show in Glasgow on April 3rd last week, re-capture both my ears and my heart with their bittersweet but sanguine new softly glowing electronic pop song. LOVE SICK explains that Hope is reflective of the struggles and anxieties we all have in life. “It’s a tale of keeping focus in a climate crowded by fears and insecurities.” We live in a time of discontent, when so many around us are struggling with depression and anxiety. LOVE SICK brings us a delicate yet stately message of comforting optimism with their lush sailing, emotive flourishing new ballad.

As Shaun & Julie further explain: “HOPE is a song about chasing your dreams envisaging them right in front of you mixed with the struggles and anxieties you have to overcome to get there, with the silver lining being the hope that one day you will. We spent a lot of time traveling between Glasgow and London exploring opportunities and hustling – writing, recording, meeting lots of new people. Sometimes all that hard work can feel like it’s for nothing, but you keep going and this song represents our journey so far.” It’s a journey we much empathize with, and one that doesn’t delineate from much of what we all experience, whatever the fine details. We’re fortunate to have such a gorgeously breathtaking, intricately woven pop song to escort us through our dark times. Stream/purchase Hope, here.

Our growing list of ravishing summer bops lights up spectacularly under the shimmering glow of this new treat from Los Angeles based singer songwriter MOONZz and New Zealand production duo SACHI. MOONZz, who has bewitched us with a wide array of future bass inspired, R&B inflected, and oft moody seductive pop in the past, proves to be a celestial union with SACHI on sparkly glimmering Hope. The new single is in fact a total re-imagining of MOONZz’ cosmic soaring single with Restless Modern, Navigator. Hope reveals a delightfully airy and lighthearted side of MOONZz that we haven’t heard before. An islandy breeze and a candy coated bounce imbibe the sanguinely heartwarming future pop and melodic house aria. MOONZz is currently working with a four piece band, planning for an upcoming summer/fall tour, and working on a ton of new music set for release over the next few months. Her sophomore EP is due out early fall. She says of Home: “To feel at home with someone is beautifully rare. SACHI’s reimagined summer flip of Navigator captures the light hearted love I felt while writing these lyrics and I’m so happy it’s out.” Home is out now across all DSP’s and it sets the stage for a bright summer for MOONZz.

With his magnificent baritone vocals, Elias pulls us into yet another spectacular single. The rising Swedish star, who will be releasing his debut album later this year on Warner, unleashes on us a flurry of majestic sweeping, soulful lifting pop by way of new single Hope. Elias’ vocal range is on full display as he dazzles us with lofty falsettos on the track too. There’s no denying the moving power of this Rationale meets BANNERS like ballad. Those in Sweden can catch Elias when he performs two exclusive shows at the Royal Dramatic Theater on November 7th and 8th. Listen to Elias’ prior singles on Soundcloud, here.

I HEART MOOSIQ VIDEO PREMIERE:

Many of us have been hit very hard by recent tragic events in Paris, which felt like a direct affront on all music and freedom loving people, launching us into heartfelt solidarity and spurning much tribute in the music scene within its wake. Singer songwriter Chløë Black, who enraptured us a year ago with her beautiful, haunting pop debut 27 Club, was raised in Paris and the US, despite being born in Australia. She offers up her own memorial by covering legendary French singer and actress Françoise Hardy’s Le Temps de L’Amour, delivering a deeply resonating and sincerely emotional rendition of the song. It’s a cover both elegant chic and huskily sultry, and she now premieres a music video for the captivating tribute. Chløë Black’s voice is stunning on the song, exuding deep maturity and exquisite dignity. The video for Le Temps de L’Amour is a riveting montage of Chløë Black’s own clips of Paris and stock footage from a glamorous era of Paris, one bygone yet still definitively preserved within the City Of Light’s romantic class and timeless beauty, both which swept me away when I visited Paris and its music venues for the first time just a month prior to recent events.

Chløë Black made the following moving statement in regards to the magnetizing cover and video:

“I’ve always loved this Françoise Hardy song. It’s timelessly cool and has only served to further fuel my obsession with French sixties bombshells.

Last weeks heartbreaking events literally hit close to home as Paris is the backdrop of my earliest memories. This grief made me hear the song in a new light. No longer just cool; it has taken on a personal melancholy and deeper meaning for me.

I wanted to, in a small way, honour not only the beauty of Parisians but humanity itself. I cut together a combination of stock footage and some clips I filmed myself in Paris a couple of years ago.

My heart goes out to those everywhere who have lost loved ones to terror.

You can stream the cover on Soundcloud below and follow along with an English translation of Le Temps de L’Amour’s lyrics below it. Thank you,

Chløë Black. You’ve captured my very sentiments in this time of dark grief, expressed in a way I cannot. You give remembrance, keep us company, and give us hope with your music.

It is the time of love,
the time of friends and adventure.
As the time comes and goes,
one thinks of nothing in spite of one’s wounds.
Because the time of love
it’s long and it’s short,
it lasts forever, we will remember it
At twenty, we tell ourselves that we are kings of the world,
and that all the blue sky will be in our eyes forever.
It is the time of love,
the time of friends and adventure.
As the time comes and goes,
We think of nothing in spite of our wounds.
For the time of love
it fills your heart
with so much warmth and happiness.
One fine day it’s love and the heart beats faster,
for life follows its course
and one is totally happy to be in love.
It is the time of love,
the time of friends and adventure.
When the time comes and goes,
one thinks of nothing in spite of one’s wounds.
For the time of love
it’s long and it’s short,
it lasts forever, we will remember it…

I noticed this one floating around earlier in the day, but when a trusted acquaintance with great taste recommended I check it out, I launched myself into Hope with, well, much high hopes. The succulent and soulful song from new Birmingham chanteuse Silk Cinema did not disappoint. Silky smooth, Hope is a blissful, mellow gem with a weightless, jazz infused groove.

I know there’s been a crazy onslaught of ZHU remixes, particularly of his amazing hit Faded. It’s certainly a testament to how many fans ZHU has so quickly won over with his productions in such a short amount of time after surfacing. This one’s not a remix. It’s a mashup, by none other than French duo WEKEED, who previously gave us a mind blowing Flume x Lorde mashup as well as some infectious originals, like Wild Child. Their latest mashes Alex Metric’s earworm banger Hope with, of course, ZHU’s Faded. It’s hot, and one helluva satisfying, indulgent piece, since I really dig both these tunes. They call it Faded Hope.

OFFICIAL VID: The Virtues – Hope

Not every band out of Sweden is electropop synthpop stuff. Take, for instance, The Virtues. Here’s their wistful single Hope, off album Beautiful Game. It’s a lovely listen.
