There’s no better name for this collaboration than what’s been assigned to it, Power Play. After all, it really is a tremendous power play when Los Angeles’ HOLYCHILD partners up with esteemed producer RAC on a song. The end result is a rather unique experience, too. HOLYCHILD brings their endearing spunk in spades, while RAC crafts a wiggling delight of a warped electro disco soundscape that only adds to the track’s quirky addictive dance allure. Perhaps this would be what Sleigh Bells gone YACHT with an infusion of jolting KOPPS would sound like in an acid trippy alternate universe.

It feels like I’ve been waiting for this remix to go off exclusivity for eons. But it’s more like, weeks… I’m ecstatic that it’s finally available for a share, because some of you are going to fall head over heels for this remix of Marina And The Diamonds’ Blue by ever growing in popularity indie pop band HOLYCHILD. Fluttering harps and frothy synths turn Blue into a heady experimental electronic trip, or a psychedelic, fizzy swig of sugar saturated soda pop. The original is off Marina and the Diamond’s latest album FROOT.

Out of the indie remix woodwork comes a wicked remix of hotly buzzing indie pop band Holychild’s Money All Around by none other than the always on point and insanely talented RAC. The original is already one of my favorites from Holychild, a venture into glitchy, spazzy electropop territories. RAC takes that vibe and pushes it further with a spastic, lurching, and choppy indie dance remix that brings to mind the noisy spirit of Sleigh Bells mixed with the dark sass of Elliphant and MØ. Downlado the remix for free, here.

Holychild, who I’ve had the pleasure of catching live in various settings numerous times now, unveiled what may be their best single to date today. While Happy For Me will always be dear to my heart, the Los Angeles based band’s new song, Money All Around, is most certainly their most massive hit and a divine evolution of their alt pop sound. This one ventures deeply into textured, glitchy electronic pop territory, with a fine dusting of noisy grime pop layered on top. The thunderous song is a taste off Holychild’s upcoming debut album, The Shape Of Brat Pop To Come. The record drops June 2nd on Glassnote. In the meantime, Holychild will be supporting Passion Pit on tour.

It’s been several months since Holychild  dropped their incredibly fun and catchy Mindspeak EP, a release that hooked me right in from the get go with their stomper of a pop song Happy With Me. It’s also been awhile since I was lucky enough to catch Holychild at a Sofar Sounds SF event, up close and personal in a private setting, which was a very nice treat. Today, the Los Angeles indie act returns with Running Behind. On it, they continue to dish out their playful, lively noise pop, driven by a frenetic, snappy drum line. It’s sugary and addicting.

It’s always an uphill battle trying to figure out how to pronounce band names, and I’m at a loss for how I should pronounce Gunakadeit out loud. What I do know is that their single South is incredibly enchanting with its crystalline vocals and avant-garde beauty. There’s an undeniably Dirty Projectors/Amber Coffman and San Fermin vibe going on with the intriguing, magical experimental pop track and its baroque attributes. Today, the band released a video for the single, directed by Liz Nistico of HOLYCHILD.

OFFICIAL VIDS: Holychild Mindspeak EP Trilogy

March 6, 2014

Alright, my friends, here’s an evening share session for you. I’ve been so busy at work and had to gloss over so much good music over the course of the week so far, that I must fit in some time to keep up with it. I’ve been a fan of Los Angeles synthpop act Holychild since I first heard the cheery, popping Happy WIth Me last year. This week, Holychild released their 3 track EP Mindspeak. Along with it, they dropped a trifecta of videos to go with all 3 catchy pop tunes. Watch the videos for Happy With Me, Everytime I Fall, and Pretend Below.
