We’re incredibly glad that Echosmith returned with a fine new EP recently, and we’re even more grateful that they’ve unleashed some holiday music to keep us more than content over the holidays, too. The California three piece, who broke out a few years ago with their ever infectious hit single Cool Kids, brings us much Christmas cheer and nostalgia with their bittersweet and windswept alt pop on Baby Don’t Leave Me (All Alone On Christmas). The twangy, homey gem can be found on An Echosmith Christmas, a three track collection of holiday music you can stream via Soundcloud, here

Christmas is just around the corner, and our long time love affair with Brooklyn’s POP ETC only grows stronger as the trio, formerly from my beloved college town of Berkeley, drenches us with holiday nostalgia on an EP named ‘A POP ETC Christmas’. It’s a three track release from the indie band on which they cover some seasonal classics and offer up a new original. As someone who grew up watching the various Charlie Brown specials that would always hit the television around this time of year, I couldn’t help but gravitate towards POP ETC’s dreamy chill version of Christmas Time Is Here, from Charlie Brown’s Christmas Special. Stream the mellow treat via Spotify above, or Soundcloud below. The EP’s original track is a perky strumming, warm embracing gem named All I Want For Xmas (Just My Baby). POP ETC also covers Paul McCartneys’ Wonderful Christmastime. Stream those tracks below alongside the Soundcloud stream for the Charlie Brown cover. Lead singer Chris Chu says about the EP: ‘Since I was a kid I always loved Christmas songs. I fell in love with Vince Guaraldi’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas” soundtrack from an early age and I’ve listened to it every Christmas I can remember. I’ve always had the idea of trying to record a few Christmas songs myself, but for some reason or another things always got too busy around the holidays and I lost track of it… until now!” The EP is available from iTunes, here.

Of course, Bruno Major would have the perfect voice and intimate artistry to deliver a sublime holiday canticle. I can’t wait to finally see the UK singer songwriter and producer live when he finally makes his way across the pond to perform as part of Noise Pop Festival next February, and now I get to melt into this cozy snug, satin nuzzling song over Christmas, too! Romance is in the air as we sway to I Think It Must Be Christmas, a mellow strumming, jazzy velutinous song. Even Santa would take a moment away from his busy duties on Christmas morning to drift away to the velveteen lullaby. Find out about Bruno Major’s North American tour in early 2018, here. And if you’ve yet to listen to his outstanding debut album A Song For Every Moon, stream it, here.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only five days away. Thank goodness I’ve finished all my Christmas shopping, though I’ve yet to wrap all the presents I bought. Let’s ring in some Christmas cheer and merry mirth with a seasonal present from trendsetting collective and esteemed record label Moving Castle. Though Joy is a collaboration involving versatile artist Mark Johns and charismatic electro/hip hop talent BLAISE, the dreamy melodious, jazzy snug song was produced by AObeats and Roget Chahayed. It also features additional vocals by SATICA, Madi, SAKIMA, and Robokid, with artwork by Robokid. Joy is a super stacked Moving Castle all-star affair, a mahogany flavored infusion of chill hip hop, pellucid R&B soul, and twinkling future beats. The song goes hand in hand with everything we love about Christmas, be it a warm fire, a glass of creamy eggnog, or plenty of cuddling with your boo. Naughty or nice, we all get to treasure this Joy. For those of you who are lucky enough to be in Southern California on January 27th, you can catch an incredible roster of Moving Castle talent live at Moving Castle World, tickets and more info can be found, here.

Terror Jr isn’t exactly the first project to pop up in my mind when I think of holiday music, but this isn’t exactly the usual stale and stagnant Christmas music, either. The aerated bop experts and grape loving production/singer trio offer up not Christmas cheer, but Christmas melancholy in the form of Sad Sad Girl. Though an anguished story inspires the resilient track, we as listeners are left joyously swaying to Lisa Terror’s ethereal vocals and the song’s gentle guitar strums and soft thumping, gingerly biting electro R&B/pop. All we need is some winter snow and some grapes to make the rest of our evening perfect. Keep up with the much adored trio on their website, here, where you can also find links for their three EPs.

Yesterday, IHM shared a set of holiday tunes to capture the spectrum of emotion we oft encounter during this time period, whether exuberant or melancholic. But there’s one song we need to slide on in that I happened to let slip through the cracks. Dear Boy’s Christmas original, Cold Spell, is anything but icy. In fact, it’s like a warm embrace, full of comfort. The Los Angeles quartet presents us with gorgeously layered indie rock on the song, at once guttural longing yet sun dappled glistening. It feels like I’ve stepped outside on a freezing winter day. Though thick snow covers the ground, a bright sun glares overhead from a sky that is pure, flawless blue. That snow will soon begin to melt and the ice in your heart may start to thaw, but it still feels a little bit desolate out in the beauty of it all. Head over to Soundcloud for more of Dear Boy’s music.

I was traipsing through the internets this afternoon in search of more holiday tunage when I encountered KiWi on Mad Decent’s A Very Decent Christmas 4 compilation, one that, for the most part, erupted with copious moombahton. KiWi immediately stood out from the crowd with their manic dark electronica. I hope you’re strapped in and ready for a carousel ride, one that whirls at break neck speeds. The Japanese duo jounce and rattle with The Christmas Party, a sugary trouncing, playful bouncing electropop tune that evokes Die Antwoord’s quirky theatrics, PC Music’s outlandishness, and The Nightmare Before Christmas ghoulishness. If Tim Burton ever makes a proper sequel, I suggest he looks into having KiWi on the soundtrack. This is one fun sounding, bass shaking Christmas party that I’d love to attend. For more of KiWi’s whimsicality, stream SUGAR PANIC below. Though it comes from earlier this year, SUGAR PANIC fits the Christmas bill to the tee, too. Saxophone and guitar seem to be prime holiday spirits conveyors, so when German production duo Saxity unveiled their take on Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, I knew right away that this will be a fantastic sleigh ride. They enlist Georgian singer songwriter Victor Perry’s buttery quivering voice for their snazzy resplendent holiday house jam. If it’s a holiday dance party you want, particularly one that still stays very true to the heartwarming feels of the season, bump this one loud and prepare to boogie the night away.
