Dark and ominous is how Heart Is A Far Light begins before it starts swirling around in foggy beauty and a soft, soothing melody. It’s the first single from WIFE’s debut album What’s Between, which comes out on June 10 on Tri-Angle. Oddly enough, WIFE is the solo project of one James Kelly, whom you might know from the now defunct black metal band Altar of Plagues. Obviously, Kelly has decided to explore very disparaging areas of music composition since then. There are moments on this ghostly tune that remind me of more hushed, sparse music by Trent Reznor, particularly from when he created music with his How To Destroy Angels project, but far less industrial, and somewhat The xx like.
