Haux’s Ricochet doesn’t so much as ricochet off our hearts, but slices gently into its most tender parts. It’s a hushed but emotive, atmospheric and gentle serenade, and it comes accompanied by news of an expansive headline tour as well as details about a sophomore EP to come on Ultra Music. Woodson Black, the enigmatic photographer-turned-musician who carefully curated each step of his debut EP All We’ve Known last year (producing each song, photo, video, and design himself), bathes us with an affecting pastiche of gossamer folktronica and haunting dream folk on the reverb-drenched cut. Ricochet was inspired by moving into a new apartment with his girlfriend last spring, and the emptiness that they both felt before their furniture arrived. New EP Something To Remember, which can be pre-ordered here, will be joined by a companion short film. The North American leg of his new tour this summer will bring him to the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on June 24th. Learn more about the full tour, here.

There’s no denying how deeply Haux’s music connects with our hearts, nor any refuting of how hauntingly beautiful the elusive artist’s folktronica and ambient electronica can be. Woodson Black, who had a pivotal 2017 with the release of his magnificent debut EP All We’ve Known, seems to know the hidden chambers of our hearts on Heartbeats, his new song and video from a forthcoming sophomore EP. Though an icy chilling, atmospheric hovering track, Heartbeats is as emotively poignant and ghostly stirring as ever. It leaves me with chills rippling through my body, and goosebumps rising on my skin. The Berkshires based artist’s striking new ballad is a tender humming sigh and a soft trembling murmur, drawn gently across our ears, repossessing our souls with a lonesome sadness. The video that accompanies this introspective journey was filmed in the Cape Cod seaside town of Truro, Massachusetts, and it features Sam Laiz and model Chloe Nørgaard. The clip previews a forthcoming companion film, giving us a glimpse of the characters and a narrative which tracks a young carpenter whose life takes an unexpected turn when he falls for a girl with pink hair and a dour secret. At the end of a whirlwind three days romance, the young man is left with a difficult choice that explores the depths of love, loss, and  atonement. Haux’s sophomore EP and companion short film Something To Remember arrives March 30th. Pre-order, here.

Haux, who just wrapped up his debut headlining tour this past Spring after melting us with poignant stirring dream folk and electronica on songs like breakout single Touch, has returned with a new song Cologne. If there really were a fragrance fashioned after Haux’s allure, it would have to be smoky and velutinous, with many layers of aroma whose fine tendrils reach out to intertwine with the micro fibers of the heart. But it’s not that sort of “cologne” that inspired Haux on his atmospheric billowing aria, but a place I’ve yet to visit. Cologne drips with remorse and sorrow, longing and sorrow.

Speaking of the new release, Woodson himself explains: “I’ve realized there are so many places I haven’t seen in the world, so many faces that seem so familiar and yet somehow so far away. I try to imagine their lives and how they differ from my own. I know I’ll never really know, but there’s something about not knowing that gives me comfort and keeps me eager to see more people and places. There was a certain magic about Cologne. It struck me as a place that I might’ve had another life in if I hadn’t lived the life I have. When I was back home, off tour, I remembered that feeling and tried to imagine a life there and the story of what might have been”. Haux will be playing a special NYC show on November 19th at Park Church Co-op, where he’ll be joined by a string section for a sure to be immensely moving and memorable experience.

Thomas Jack has been a hermit this year, and we’ve been missing the producer’s balmy expertise in the interim, particularly now that we’re in the midst of summer. But what’s this? He’s suddenly re-surfaced out of Australia with a remix of one of our favorite dream folk and ambient electronic artists, Haux! And boy has he surprised us with this deep hypnotic take on Haux’s Homegrown. Thomas Jack’s deep house remix takes full advantage of Haux’s haunting vocals and the song’s meandering beauty and introspective ambiance. The breathtakingly entrancing re-work is available from major outlets, here.

Youth is quintessential Daughter, one of the most moving atmospheric folk songs off of the British band’s 2013 debut, If You Leave, one of my favorites from that music glorious year. Who else would be the perfect artist to cover that breathtaking piece than Woodson Black, better known as Haux? Prepare for a heart pummeling experience as Haux presents us with a misty melancholic, gossamer haunting folktronica rendition of Youth. Haux is currently wrapping up an extensive tour in UK and Europe. Find out more about its final dates, here.

Woodson Black is at it again, moving us with his poignant stirring dream folk and ambient electronica as Haux. We can’t help but move our bodies to his new song Touch as he imbues his usual atmospheric soothing, cinematic sprawling sound with a light, sensuous groove. Touch is a bittersweet ode to heartbreak. The tender beauty drips with longing and regret. Haux might as well be singing about us on the song. He breaks us down with his “touch”. Haux will be kicking off his North American headlining tour in Boston on April 25th. Find out more about the tour, here. Touch is available as a single, here.

Solo artist Haux has proven himself an exquisite sonic magician with his dream folk and ambient alt electronica. One of my all time favorite Haux tracks has to be Caves, a song which has already received some splendorous remixing treatments since the original surfaced over a year ago. The latest such treat comes by way of Miami duo SMLE, who takes advantage of the original’s spacious grandeur and melancholic twinge to create a breathtaking tapestry of sound and vibes. The ethereally quivering chill trap and dizzy skittering drumwork found on SMLE’s remix are compressed and dense, but we’re given more than enough time to breath between dramatic build ups and spiraling drops, too. Any remix of Haux can be expected to be beautiful, but SMLE goes above and beyond on this alternately soothing and frenetic remix. The track is part of an official remix package for Caves, out now on Ultra Records. Haux will be touring stateside this April with a stop in San Francisco at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall. You can also stream SMLE’s remix of Caves off of Soundcloud below.

NYC’s Haux has taken my breath away countless times with the artist’s beautifully atmospheric, gossamer stirring dream folk. Sweden’s Samuraii takes full advantage of that silky melting effervescence on a halcyon remix of Haux’s Caves. Samuraii infuses the original with celestial shimmering synths and crisp resonant drums on their melodic bass/chillstep makeover. The airy ethereal, sparse enchanting official edit leads me into a fantastical reverie, one tinged with misty regret yet sublimely soothing. Samuraii’s gorgeous remix is available from various outlets, here.
