All of the covers on Tegan and Sara’s new album are amazing. Plus, The Con X: Covers, a celebration of the Canadian twins’ beloved 2007 album The Con, features an endless array of star talent we adore. Let’s take our time to dive into this beautiful cover of Dark Come Soon by who else, but our favorite Canadian pop artist Grimes and her friend and fellow edgy pop talent, HANA. Dark Come Soon gets a wispy fragile, dark emotive metamorphosis on the lissome haunting cover. The Con X: Covers is available, here, and it also features tracks by MUNA, Shura, Mykki Blanco, PVRIS, Ryan Adams, Bleachers, CHVRCHES, and many, many more. All proceeds from The Con X: Covers benefit The Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for health, economic justice, and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.

It would seem today must be Christmas Day in Grimes world.  The artsy eccentric, brilliantly innovative pop prodigy just dropped a smorgasbord, or a buffet, of videos upon us, and this fan of Claire Boucher can’t be any more happier. Entitled Grimes x HANA’s Acid Reign Chronicles, the videos cover four tracks off of Grimes’ critically acclaimed Art Angels album as well as three tracks from her buddy and collaborator HANA. All visuals were filmed while they were on tour in Europe in a “guerilla style”. Grimes explains that they were captured on a phone, with no crew, makeup, cameras, or lights. Yet these videos are absolutely charming, and oh so uniquely Grimes. Watch the video for World Princess Part II above, then view videos for Butterfly, Scream ft. Aristophanes, and Belly Of The Beat below, followed by videos for HANA’s Underwater, Chimera, and Avalanche

Earlier this year, Los Angeles newcomer HANA offered us a crystalline electropop debut named Clay that proceeded to weave a spell over so many of us. The 25 year old singer songwriter continues to expand that hold over us with a glitchy, pulsing second song named Avalanche. She teams up with producer Blood Diamonds yet again on the darkly sparkling and spaciously echoing song, which evokes both Grimes and Lorde, with a hint of hotly buzzing Nashville newcomer CAPPA, too. Avalanche is a beautiful, icy song.

It should be obvious by now how much I love bewitching female electronic pop music. Newcomer HANA brings exactly that on a crystalline electropop song named Clay, her first official single. The Los Angeles based singer songwriter teamed up with Blood Diamonds on the song, who gives the track its minimalist, other worldly production. There’s a soft opulence to Clay that evokes Shura, but it’s doused in a bright pop sound that radiates sparkling vigor despite the song’s graceful serenity. It’s reported that HANA is good buddies with our dear Grimes, and she’ll be joining Grimes and Lana Del Rey on tour later this year. Um, I’m there.
