Having been a fan of Half Moon Run since before the release of debut album Dark Eyes in 2012 (wow, time flies!), I’m incredibly glad to have learned that the Canadian indie rock band will be releasing a sophomore album soon. Off Sun Leads Me On comes first taste Trust, which showcases a Half Moon Run that’s gone surprisingly psychedelic and electronic, compared to some of the more earthy alt folk offerings I loved in the past. This new direction is exhilarating yet hypnotic, and refreshingly welcome. This Half Moon Run reminds me of Tame Impala and Jagwar Ma. Half Moon Run’s new album, Sun Leads Me On, will be out October 23rd. Head to their site to pre-order. And stream Trust from Spotify above, Soundcloud below.

You might recall that a couple weeks ago, I shared an astounding piece of music named Tunnels, which is a collaboration between Ryne Estwing of ON AN ON, Erin Fein of Psychic Twin, and Nygel Asselin, who produces for Half Moon Run. The song was created at a retreat, named The Red Brick Songs, which united fifteen musicians for a walloping few days of amazing songwriting. Together, they created songs for a compilation named The Red Album. The next offering they’ve premiered from that album is this melting, folk tinged song, Drifting, a collaboration between Nate Eiesland (ON AN ON), Nygel Asselin (HalfMoon Run), and Toronto songbird STACEY. It’s such a breathtakingly introspective gem with an encompassing, soothing effect.

OFFICIAL VID: Half Moon Run – No More Losing The War

I really adored Canadian indie rock band Half Moon Run’s debut album Dark Eyes, which came out in the US last year. In fact, I believe the album to have been deeply underrated and overlooked by too many. The album boasted amazing, commanding songs from start to finish, at times reminding me of intricate music by the likes of Local Natives and Grizzly Bear. Today’s new video for dour album track No More Losing The War gives me a chance to profess my love, yet again. Revisit the video for Full Circle below, too.

Tunnels starts off reminding me greatly of Fleetwood Mac and HAIM before more of the foggy, dreamy synthiness truly kicks in. The lush song is a fantastic collaboration between Ryne Estwing of ON AN ON, Erin Fein of Psychic Twin, and Nygel Asselin, who produces for Half Moon Run. The beautiful creation resulted from a retreat named The Red Brick Songs, which united fifteen musicians in Toronto to collaborate on music. The songs recorded from the retreat will be released on an album titled The Red Album, but Red Brick Songs will be releasing the songs bit by bit over the next several months. Tunnels is our first taste.

OFFICIAL VID: Half Moon Run – Judgement

Montreal rockers Half Moon Run debuted a new video today for Judgement, one of their great tunes off of debut album Dark Eyes. It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to them after being enthralled by that debut. The folksy single Full Circle is still my favorite off the release, but Juggernaut’s certainly up there, too.

OFFICIAL VID: Half Moon Run – She Wants To Know

October 31, 2013

Montreal indie rock band Half Moon Run have a new video for us for their song She Wants To Know. It’s one of many fantastic tracks off their debut album Dark Eyes. Half Moon Run really remind me of Local Natives on this particular song. It’s one of their less folk leaning tunes, unlike album track Full Circle which first grabbed my attention. There’s more of a mature, art pop feel to the deliriously moody song. The twisted video for the song seems like a perfect fit for Halloween day. These guys were great when I caught them live earlier this month.
