The UK’s Stay + (Stay Positive) offered up this awesome remix of Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon track Explosions. It’s more of a deep house and breaks approach, and it works wonderfully with the song. Somehow, maybe even better than the dubstep remixes that have been floating around? There’s even some choppy screwy warped vocal stuff going on later in the track that adds another layer to the remix.

Explosions (Gemini remix)

February 28, 2013

Wow, I’m really hitting the electronic genre hard these last few posts. Well, it’s no secret that Ellie Goulding’s pop songs are choice cuts for hard EDM remixing. Bassnectar’s remix of her track Lights is probably still one of the best dubstep remixes ever. The latest Ellie song to get the drop treatment is her Halcyon track Explosions. The remixer? British producer Gemini. There’s just something so satisfying about dubstep Ellie. When she performed Lights live at the Fox in Oakland a few weeks ago, the crowd was thirsting for some heavy beats. In the end, she delivered. And the place went crazy!

OFFICIAL VID: Ellie Goulding – Explosions

Ellie announced they’ve made a “little video for Explosions” with some live footage from her shows “old and new”. The song is a dramatic, lovely song that really shows off her amazing vocals. Explosions is off her recent, great sophomore album Halcyon. However, I’d pick debut album Lights any day over Halcyon. When it comes down to it, I love Ellie the most when she’s performing acoustic, or getting remixed by the likes of Bassnectar. Regardless, she’s always on top of her game and a mega talented pop star. Her voice is one of the most recognizable ones in the superstar pop machine these days. I’m so glad she made it this big. Way to go, Ellie.

OFFICIAL VID: Ellie Goulding – Figure 8

Ms. Skrilly… I mean, Ellie Goulding, has a new single and video out off hit sophomore album Halcyon. The new song to get the royal treatment is Figure 8. As much as it might sound like Skrillex had some influence on this tune and some of Halcyon, the producer and beats are courtesy of London’s MONSTA. MONSTA is signed to OWSLA, Skrillex’s label. So, the connection is still very much there. The pop ballad is a bit dubsteppy, but not quite. What it’s missing in heavy drops will for sure be made up in a remix not far down the line. I still think the best Ellie Goulding remix is the Bassnectar remix of Lights last year. That was insane. Figure 8 also has mad remix potential.

Ellie Goulding full Troubadour set

October 18, 2012

Supposedly only available for a limited time, here’s the full official HD director’s cut video for Ellie Goulding’s performance at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on October 16, 2012. It’s over an hour long of Ellie goodness. The British songstress is riding oh so high on her sophomore album Halcyon right now, which I’ve yet to pop in for a listen. She’s gone a long, long way from when no one knew her in the US. I’m so very happy for her. It feels like yesterday that my friends decided MGMT was far more important to catch again than Ellie Goulding on the small side stage at Outside Lands Music Festival a couple years ago (yes, I went it alone and it was a greaaaaat set). Seems like just yesterday that I was blasting her debut album in my car and had multiple friends ask me who she was. At the time, I was already greatly regretting that due to a gazillion show conflicts the same night, I had to miss her show at the super duper tiny Bottom of the Hill. She’s never going to play such small venues again. She’s never going to be supporting act for the likes of Katy Perry and other US pop princesses. She’s far too big for that now. Way to go, Ellie! You and Skrilly make a power music couple!
