One week ago, I had the pleasure of watching TV on the Radio tear it up on stage again at the Fox Oakland. They were as great as I remembered them to be at the last headlining show I attended back in 2012 at the intimate Independent. I have some mad love for that band, and for Tunde Adebimpe. It was very much a pleasant surprise and fantastic treat today when I saw that Tunde had teamed up with Sinkane and Sal P for a new song named Speedline Miracle Masterpiece, off the forthcoming The Alchemist and Oh No Present: Welcome to Los Santos compilation (the genre-spanning collection of new music for Grand Theft Auto V, available April 21st). Speedline Miracle Masterpiece is a spectacular sonic wall of TV On The Radio like funky indie rock sound and bold, blaring production.

Here’s a very unexpected but much appreciate collaboration that surfaced today. California hip hop act Gangrene, made up of The Alchemist and Oh No, let loose a swanky, retro track named Play It Cool featuring Earl Sweatshirt and, surprisingly, Samuel T. Herring of my beloved Future Islands. The song is off Gangrene’s new album The Alchemist and Oh No Present: Welcome to Los Santos, out April 21st. The album is inspired by the video game Grand Theft Auto V, and it really does feel like I’m in the wild world of the game while listening to the song. Sam’s deep vocals are a much welcome treat.

That little video game named Grand Theft Auto V has one intense, amazing soundtrack. In fact, it has a soundtrack THREE volumes long, filled with the likes of Wavves, Twin Shadow, FlyLo, DJ Shadow, Toro Y Moi, A$AP Rocky, Yeasayer, Dan Croll, Tyler the Creator, and so many more. Oh, let’s not forget about Clams Casino! His contribution to the soundtrack is a sick production titled Crystals. It’s sinister, hazy, heavy, and all around SICK. It’s exactly what I hoped for from the talented producer. Stream it above.
