While it’s been apparent to me why I’ve been drawn to the sounds of Gothic Tropic, I’ve only now really mulled over why I find the female fronted Los Angeles based band’s name so attractive. And I’ve come to realize why their moniker is magnetic. People don’t often associate ‘tropical’ with ‘goth’, yet the diametric idea of the two together is idiosyncratically appealing. Perhaps the same can be said about their music, too. Don’t Give Me Up, their latest single, is as forlornly lovelorn as it is punchy piquant. This dichotomy of sorts, dark and vibrant, cheeky yet desperate, is deeply enticing. The snappy pop gem contains aural nods to stars like Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde, as well bands like HAIM and Fleetwood Mac. Don’t Give Me Up comes from Gothic Tropic’s upcoming album Fast Or Feast, out October 28th via Old Flame Records.

If you egregiously missed Gothic Tropic’s Stronger last month, their new video for the track is your chance to get in on this spunky earworm today. The song is a jaunty hooking, frisky chugging indie rock and power pop cut from the Los Angeles based female fronted band. Gothic Tropic is the brainchild of Cecilia Della Peruti, who also works professionally as a touring and session player for Charli XCX, BØRNS, and more. Stronger’s slick bass and punchy cadence are a nod to stars like Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde, with a side of some Nile Rodgers and Richard Lloyd. The song’s glam timbre is certainly reflected in Gothic Tropic’s new video. Stronger is out now on Old Flame Records.

There’s no resisting the peppy beats and hot blooded mettle found on Gothic Tropic’s Stronger. It sinks its hooks in deep from the get go, a frisky, spunky earworm with much ragged appeal from a Los Angeles based female fronted indie rock band created by Ceclia Della Peruti, who also works professionally as a touring and session player for Charli XCX, BØRNS, and more. Stronger’s snappy bass licks and punchy playfulness are a nod to stars like Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde. There’s certainly a glamorous timbre to this head bop ready firecracker of a tune.
