OFFICIAL VID: Gliss – The Sea Tonight

October 31, 2013

I’m on a roll with the Los Angeles rock band shares at the moment. I really enjoyed shoegaze band Gliss’ album Langsom Dans earlier this year. Album track The Sea Tonight is one of the less brooding, more bright and upbeat tracks off the album with its fetching, melodic pop chorus. Watch their new video for the song.

ACOUSTIC VIDEO: Gliss – Into the Water

February 20, 2013

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Danish/Los Angeles band Gliss’ recent album Langsom Dans, a stand out full length that takes you from soaring, airy dreaminess to the depths of indulgent dark shadows. It’s with great pleasure I learned that they’re doing a five video acoustic series, starting with this one, a gorgeous rendition of Langsom Dans track Into the Water. This one starts out shadowy and goosebump inducing chilly, but goes large scale grand and deeply satisfying as the song progresses, quickly lifting you from lows to highs. That grandness is toned down in the acoustic, stripped down version, but the more hushed approach is breathtakingly beautiful. I’m left hungering for more.

And here’s one that’s extra dear to me that I’ve been waiting for with a lot of excitement: Los Angeles indie band Gliss’ third album Langsom Dans, a shoegaze-y, blissful, textured, synthy work of art. I’ve yet to find time to listen to all of these start to finish, but this record will be the very first listen on my list. Atmospheric fourth track Weight Of Love is a personal favorite of 2012. From what I’ve heard so far, I’m already loving this release. I caught the band live in a small venue not long ago, and were wonderful live. The album is also out on 1/22 off Modern Outsider. Los Angeles (partially by way of Copenhagen) pop art/shoegaze band Gliss released a brand new EP last Friday. The title track, Hunting, is a haunting and infectious dream pop song with some dark edginess. I’m hoping to make it out tonight to see them live in San Francisco at the Rickshaw Stop along with their buddies Io Echo (whom I’ve caught live once before opening for TV on the Radio). I hope the little bug I caught previous to last weekend works with me on this. I’m looking forward to hearing this live and I plan to grab the new EP from the merch table if available!

OFFICIAL VID: Gliss – Weight Of Love

March 1, 2012

Here’s a nice new discovery. Weight Of Love is a song from Gliss off their upcoming new album Langsom Dans, which was mixed by Michael Patterson who also mixed the soundtracks for the Trent Reznor scored The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network. The band Gliss is not new to the scene, having formed in 2004 in Los Angeles. Their first EP caught the attention of The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan who brought them out to support him on tour. After a couple of albums, it’s said that their upcoming full length is a departure from their traditional sound. Having only found out about them, I have nothing to compare Weight Of Love to, but it did surprise me that they toured with Billy Corgan. Their sound in Weight Of Love doesn’t seem like something that naturally goes with Smashing Pumpkins material. Even the swimming pool footage in this video seems much more Nirvana than Pumpkins. Weight Of Love is a hazy, dreamy, synthpop track. It’s very steamy and artsy, as is the accompanying video. Check it out. I’m digging it a lot.
