So, I’ve sort of been waiting to see this indie film named Lost River, which is also Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, ever since I caught its trailer, which has a dark vibe that seems to blend both Lynchian and Luhrmann like qualities, two directors I’m quite fond of. The film also boasts a soundtrack with tracks crafted by Johnny Jewel of Chromatics and Glass Candy (and Italians Do It Better, of course). Saoirse Ronin stars in the film. She’s an actress I have much respect for, too. Imagine my delighted when Johnny revealed the opening track for the film today. Tell Me even features vocals by Saoirse. I don’t know if having film stars sing on soundtracks is becoming a thing or not (reference Jennifer Lawrence and The Hanging Tree), but Tell Me is a beautiful, weightless gem, very different from Johnny Jewel’s usually droopy and murky style.

Weeeeeeee… Johnny Jewel’s Glass Candy is back with a video for their song Redheads Feel More Pain. The first minute and a half are filled with haunting monologue. Then…. italo disco synth heavy eargasm! Geez! The track is the closing track off of the Italians Do It Better After Dark 2 compilation, which is filled with one kick ass song after another.

And now, let’s go italo disco! Johnny Jewel’s keeping busy, as always. Here’s his project Glass Candy’s new track The Possessed (Extended Runway Edit). It’s another tune off the coming compilation album After Dark II and it was premiered during a Parisian fashion show. And boy, is it fantastic with it’s spacey 80’s vibe.

Italo disco wizard Johnny Jewel has so many amazing projects going on all at once. His Glass Candy project released this delicious track titled Geto Boys. It’s quite the jam. Here’s what he said in the description for the track:

We Also Sampled The Classic Isaac Hayes Track “Hung Up On My Baby” From 1974.
Ida Sings Sugarboy Crawford’s “IKO IKO” Over The Beat.

OFFICIAL VID: Desire – Tears From Heaven

November 1, 2012

I previously shared a brand new Chromatics track titled Looking For Love off of the upcoming compilation album After Dark 2 which features songs from Johnny Jewel’s many projects (Chromatics, Glass Candy, Desire, etc). Today, we get another dreamy track off that compilation. This one is from Jewel’s project Desire with Canadian singer Megan Louise. Tears from Heaven consists of some very pleasant, light vocals by Megan Louise. Around the 2/3 mark, a great beat and synthline kicks in. It’s hypnotizing. The film clip is filled with the usual lo-fi atmospheric visuals in many of Johnny Jewel’s videos, usually directed by Alberto Rossini, as in this case too.
