It’s a very dirty, scuzzy sort of alt rock fare that Glasgow band Catholic Action offers up on their sonic menu via a lo-fi music video for their latest single, Breakfast. The gritty cruncher of a tune is undeniably infectious, a gauzy stomping garage punk tune from their new double A-side out today via Luv Luv Records. Breakfast is a live favorite, its playful take on glam meets post-punk making it quite the gratifying anthem. Four piece band Catholic Action has been winning fans over all across the UK, having played rambunctious shows alongside the likes of Swim Deep, The Libertines, and FFS. There’s no doubt we’ll be hearing far more of this band going forth, even here across the pond. Snag Breakfast and other double-A side single Rita Ora from iTunes.

Long Beach indie rock trio OBLIO, who have already grown quite a following locally in Southern California, have unleashed a music video for their chugging infectious single Days. Days is the first single from the band’s forthcoming full length Autophobia, due out this September. Its video depicts the band performing in a garage but follows its members as they act out themes of alienation and violence. Despite its propulsive spirit, Days is rather dark and raw, which seems to contrast with what you’d normally expect from a sunny SoCal band. Days is catchy yet morose, a snappy brooding chunk of garage punk imbued rock. The single is a free download at Bandcamp.

Esteemed local label OIM Reords is preparing to release the second edition of their compilation series on July 22nd, and the first single revealed from OIM Vol. II is a rock and roll jam from San Francisco’s Hot Flash Heat Wave. Bye Bye Baby is a lo-fi scuzzy breakup anthem. The four piece’s influences include Beach Boys, Santo & Johnny, and Weezer, and there’s certainly plenty of garage punk and surf rock vibes on their bristling jam. Hot Flash Heat Wave also unleashed a music video for the song today. The VHS styled video launches us right back into the past. For more about OIM Vol. II, head to OIM Records’ website or pre-order from Bandcamp.

In case you haven’t heard, HeyRocco recently followed up their debut album Teenage Movie Soundtrack with a new EP, which was produced by hugely influential artist and producer Brendan Benson. From Waiting On Cool comes lead single Build It Up, a scratchy, crunching dosage of the Southern California band’s denim washed garage punk. As always, there’s plenty of glorious 90′s evocative grunge and scuzz on their angst ridden jam, bringing to mind both Weezer and Nirvana. Build It Up and HeyRocco’s Waiting On Cool EP are out now on Dine Alone Music. You can stream the EP on Spotify.

Dutch garage punk rockers St. Tropez return with gritty melodic chugger I Want To Live In St. Tropez. Though I’ve never visited St. Tropez, I wasn’t too far from the town when I visited the French Riviera last fall. From all that I saw of the area, I have an inkling I’d love to live in St. Tropez, too. The quartet proclaim their love for the balmy Cote d’Azur destination by ripping into their guitars and yelping with much boisterous passion. The spirited chunky song is a taste from the band’s self titled debut album, due out August 26th. I Wanna Live In St. Tropez is a rattling delight, a burst of noisy spunk. The single is available now from iTunes.

I’m sure there are a lot of elated music heads today, considering the fact that indie rock veterans The Kills have announced brand new album Ash & Ice, revealed a new single (via a new video), and expanded their tour. It’s a triple whammy, if ever there was one. Alison and Jamie return with copious amounts of the UK duo’s grimy, garage punky rock on Doing It To Death, a scorching, riff filled treat whose grim music video is the perfect accompaniment. Ash & Ice drops June 3rd on Domino. The Kills fans in the bay will get to catch them right after the album release, on June 4th at the Fox Oakland.

From Brisbane, Australia comes a rocking outfit named WAAX, who had an exciting year, having dropped a debut EP, gone on two tours, and slayed at multiple festivals. They’ve caught my eager attention with their latest single, Holy Sick, a rip roaring post punk meets noisy grunge rock snarler. Holy Sick’s fury and vicious turbulence reminds me of Savages, with a hint of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ dance punk. It comes with a live footage music video that showcases the band’s stage presence and energetic performance. Yelping sharp Holy Sick comes from WAAX’s debut four track EP of the same name, available to stream in full on Soundcloud. Purchase the EP on iTunes.

Norwegian quartet Slutface, aside from having a memorable band name, delivers rowdy, hooking, and manic power pop/pop punk music on their single Shave My Head. The rebellious nature of their music is undeniable, and they’ve dropped a video for the song today. Watch the video below, and hit up some even more guitar snarling, foot stomping energy via Get My Own below the video, too. It’s obvious this band is one to watch, and I’d love to jump around recklessly to their music live someday. Get My Own and Shave My Head were released as A/B-sides on October 16 via OEOE.

San Diego surf punkers Wavves roar back on to the scene with raunchy, boisterous Too Much. The scuzzily rocking pop punk gem is infinitely catchy, a welcome return and magnificently frenzied taste off the quartet’s next full length album. Seems it’s going to be a busy rest of the year for Wavves, considering they’re also collaborating with Cloud Nothings on an album.

While Fidlar’s West Coast was first heard on their free demo EP a couple years ago, the Southern California garage punk band has now unleashed the boisterous, raucous number as a single off their forthcoming album, Too. West Coast follows on their previous stellar single, 40oz. On Repeat, and it’s quickly convincing me that Too is a must listen album, especially if you’re a fan of this sort of scuzzy, popping surf meets skate rock. Watch Fidlar’s new video for West Coast below. The band will be embarking on an extensive headlining US tour in September in support of new album Too, which will be out September 4th.
