There sure are a lot of exciting female lead rock projects rising out of Australia right now. Brisbane four piece VOIID brings us a whole lot of riotous spirit and rebellious fortitude on Silly Girl. It’s a gritty, spunky garage punk anthem bursting with fuzzy guitars and unruly energy that recalls the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Speedy Ortiz, and Sløtface. Silly Girl arrives just as the band is preparing to head out on their Australian East Coast Summer Tour. The chunky chugging track is based on the “countless amount of moronic things VOIID had to deal with as a band, it’s a massive f*ck you to people who think they are better, act above you or are just an outright awful person.” We all know sanctimonious people like that, and now we can blast this rowdy gem when we’re sick and fed up with their antics. You can listen to VOIID’s 2016 EP Pussy Oriented on Soundcloud, here.

Our Friday evening rock adventures continues with a new music video from Indigo Husk, a lo-fi indie rock band who just finished touring the UK in support of IHM favorite, Will Joseph Cook. They wrap up the year by unleashing the visual accompaniment for their jaunty bopping, crunchy riotous garage punk single Waste Of A Year. Our year is obviously no waste now that we’ve come across this English quartet and their wildly infectious song, which sort of sounds like a cross between The Libertines and California’s very own rising punk stars, SWMRS. Snag the jam, here, and listen to more of this budding four piece’s music on Soundcloud, here.

Culture Abuse formed here in the San Francisco Bay back in 2013, and they released a debut album entitled Peachy in late 2016 on 6131 Records. Yet, I somehow egregiously missed out on the band till now, but that all changes this week with So Busted, the garage punk band’s first single since they’ve signed to Epitaph Records. Chunky chugging So Busted is scuzzy infectious. It’s also blanketed in a delicious layer of heavy distortion. Front man David Kelling explains that the rock and roll love song is about “all the stuff you are told you need in life but when it all boils down all you really want is to feel loved and cared for.” The band will be playing at Hyde Park with Green Day and Rancid on July 1st. They’ll also be touring through the UK and EU this summer. You can grab So Busted from iTunes, here.

The members of new Los Angeles outfit Blushh sure aren’t pulling any punches when it comes to their scuzzy enthralling guitar pop and indie rock. It’s been but a month since they gave us debut single I Don’t Want To Leave, and here they are already with a whole EP of fine tunes. The quartet, lead by Shab Ferdowsi, who’s joined by Fever Charm members Arieh Berl and Yianni Anastos-Prastacos as well as Kid Cadaver’s Kenzo Cardenas, is quickly turning ears and lighting up tastemakers’ eyes with their raw emotive, lo-fi melodious jams. Of the five track debut, our current favorite (key word: current) is There For You, a fuzzy bopping, angsty spirited anthem that falls somewhere between Vagabon’s candid indie rock and Diet Cig’s sweetly biting garage punk. You can stream Blushh’s debut EP It’s Fine on Soundcloud, here.

New York pop punk duo Diet Cig released their debut album Swear I’m Good At This earlier this year, and all the critical acclaim it received was well deserved. Sadly, despite their popularity at SXSW earlier this year and their stop in San Francisco, I’ve yet to catch Alex and Noah live. That’s at the top of my list as something that needs to change. In case you haven’t caught wind of it yet, Diet Cig released a music video for their endearing single Barf Day yesterday. It’s an adorable clip that goes hand in hand with some of the song’s lyrics about birthday parties and ice cream. And any chance to revisit the angst ridden, raw and earnest tune is a good one in my books. Despite its gritty crunching scuzz, Barf Day is so melodically enticing and a whole lot of fun. Swear I’m Good At This is out via Frenchkiss, snag it here.

With raucous clamoring spirit comes London’s Cross Wires, who are truly electrifying on their rocking new tune, We Call The Shots. It’s a rip roaring, dark bellowing form of garage rock and post punk as Cross Wires works us into a delirious frenzy with their latest song. We Call The Shots is taken from a debut album arriving soon. The single will be out tomorrow, April 21st, across all major digital retailers. You can stream and purchase this exciting new band’s debut AA side single, I Want Radio/Pink Dogs, on bandcamp.

Up north to Canada we go for a dance shoes necessitating pop punk meets dance rock beast. Fiery ferocious, glamorous twirling Taker is a massive jam from garage punk outfit K.I.D, a duo from Mississauga. The bold thrashing earworm takes firm hold of my ears and full control of my body with an abundance of boisterous attitude. I find myself invigorated by this feisty boost of energy, eager for more from the exciting project who plan to unleash an album early next year on Columbia. You can watch a lyric video for Taker below. Purchase or stream from other major services, here.

We’re kicking things off today with a jolt, courtesy of a buzzing new UK band named Avalanche Party. It’s an avalanche indeed that crashes upon us via their cinematic video for new single Solid Gold. With it, they display their propensity for noisy, psychedelic garage punk. It’s no wonder the lads are drumming up so much praise back home across the pond. Solid Gold has already been added to Huw Stephens’ Best Of Radio 1 BBC Introducing Playlist and Avalanche Party’s live reputation already precedes them. Just imagine how savagely exhilarating Solid Gold could be from below the stage, in all its riotous roaring, dark glowering glory. Those of you in the UK can catch Avalanche Party at various gigs throughout the month. Solid Gold will be out on December 2nd via Amazing Record Co.’s Singles Club. To receive the track, sign up with Amazing Record Co., here. Check out more spectacular Avalanche Party by visiting their self titled debut EP on Soundcloud.

Though Cherry Glazerr’s Nurse Ratched has been around as a B-side since 2014, the Los Angeles based indie rock trio has plans to include the tune on their new album, Apocalipstick, a record long time fans are looking forward to with much excitement since it’s been years since their last full length. A macabre new video arrived today for Nurse Ratched, and it happens to be perfect for Halloween. Nurse Ratched itself is also a deliciously dark and blusterous garage punk piece well worth falling in love with all over again as we await Apocalipstick, due out January 20th on Secretly Canadian. Pre-order, here.

In just a little over a week, Honeyblood will be releasing their eagerly awaited sophomore album, Babes Never Die. As these final days dwindle away, the Scottish two piece has revealed a video for album single Sea Hearts. We’ve known from past experience that Honeyblood videos can be quite brilliant indeed, and this one, directed by Thomas James (Black Dog Films), is as creepy captivating and visually stunning as ever. It tells the story of a sea witch and her adventure at a house party, which Honeyblood feels captures the energy of the song. Sea Hearts’ scuzzy, punchy punk crunches along rhythmically with an abundance of yelpy angst and whirring charisma. Pre-order Honeyblood’s next album Babes Never Die ahead of its October 28th release date from  iTunes or musicglue.
