I’m really digging the amalgamation of hip hop, electronic, and alt in a lot of fresh music lately. I feel like I’ve been sharing a lot of songs that sit between those genres, bringing in bits and pieces from each to build a complex and stirring new sound. Today, we have a spectacular new track that does exactly that from UK band FTSE. This Is Life is the band’s latest single from debut album Joyless, out August 28th. The song is full on thrilling. Gritty hip hop with witty vocals cut through an electronic soundscape that fluctuates between techno and drum & bass. I can only imagine how exciting FTSE would be live. This Is Life will be out as a single September 25th.

Once in awhile, something comes along that’s so fresh, that it leaves me with my head cocked to the side and my eyes wide open, staring at my monitor, as I allow the music to flow through the very center of my being. That’s exactly what happened when I encountered Get Hot earlier today, a duo made up of producers FTSE and Jakwob. Fight is their second single, and together, the two have crafted a sound they call “synth-hardcore”. Think electronica meets post-hardcore rock music to get an idea of what these fellas sound like together. It’s unique and rip roaring energetic, a bit like Death From Above 1979 meets Crystal Castles, with a touch of death metal and a pinch of Fall Out Boy. It’s some crazy stuff, and I know a few friends who would fall head over heels for this stuff. Coincidentally, Get Hot has just signed to Last Gang Records (who also have Crystal Castles and DFA 1979 on their roster) in North America. An album will be coming along in 2015, and it should be one of next year’s more interesting, exciting releases. Visit first single Drugs below. I’ll be watching as the buzz rises on this duo.

Anyone that’s followed IHM for a short while knows I’m quite the fan of British artist Sivu and his gorgeous baroque and chamber pop flavored alt music. Turns out, his melting song Better Man Than He remixes very well, as can be heard on this grandiose, triumphant, and mesmerizing FTSE remix. The complex rendition leaves behind some of the song’s original soothing charm, giving it a more magnificent, bombastic horn imbued, bleepy and bloopy off kilter feel that’s absolutely stunning. It leaves me with the widest grin ever on my face. Sivu’s debut album Something On High is due for release in the UK on October 13 via Atlantic Records. I’m praying for a stateside release soon afterwards.
