Lately, there seems to be an uptick in unexpected covers again. The least of such covers I expected to surface is a cover of my favorite Angel Olsen song, Shut Up Kiss Me, by Scottish post-punk and dance-punk heavyweights, Franz Ferdinand. Despite how busy they must be with rolling out their new album Always Ascending (arriving this Friday), Alex Kaparanos and his bandmates have recorded a cover of the feisty tune for SiriusXM, giving Shut Up Kiss Me their trademark drawl while charging up its already boisterous energy. If you haven’t pre-ordered Always Ascending yet (as I have), I highly recommend you do so, here.

Our adventures with Scottish post-punk/dance rock legends Franz Ferdinand continues as the band continues to reveal stellar new offerings off their long awaited new album. Alex Kapranos and his merry band of musicians share a magnificent new song in Lazy Boy. They’ll work you into a dance frenzy with this dance punk sensation, whose oily sleek funk riffs and deep booming drawl are met by a classic Franz Ferdinand verve. New album Always Ascending, Franz Ferdinand’s first in five long years, arrives February 9th on Domino. Pre-order, here, and stream/download Lazy Boy, here.

Franz Ferdinand’s first new album in five long years will be arriving next month, and we’ve already received a rapturous serving of the beloved Scottish post-punk/dance rock band’s music in the form of lead single Always Ascending. It’s just the sort of punchy electrifying strutter that we’ve been missing from Alex Kapranos and his bandmates. Franz Ferdinand follows up that ace first track with Feel The Love Go, a whirlwind disco funk and post-punk flavored delight rife with plenty of their usual swagger and Kapranos’ deep mesmeric drawl. Feel The Love Go also spends much of its second half in feverish urgency compounded by a whole lot of impassioned sax and frisky beats. New album Always Ascending is goinig to be a superb treat when it drops on Domino come February 9th, and I can’t wait to hear the new material live too. Pre-order the new album, here, and stream/purchase Feel The Love Go as a single, here.

Today’s a mighty fine day for a Franz Ferdinand fan like me. Not only have the Glasgow post-punkers lead by ever charismatic Alex Kapranos shared their first new song in ages, but they’ve also announced their fifth full length album and an expansive world tour, too. Always Ascending arrives via Domino on February 9th. Their new tour begins in two days in Spain and closes out right here in the Bay at the Fox Theater in Oakland come May 17th. The title track from Always Ascending is our first streaming treat off the release. It’s a synth florid ambler that evolves into a disco glam, dance rock flashy extravaganza of which I’m sure Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem would approve. The punchy anthem is available, here. Pre-order Franz Ferdinand’s new album, here.

Let’s revel in the fact that English psych rock band Temples will be releasing their long awaited sophomore album Volcano on March 3rd. I’m reveling extra hard, because I just pre-ordered the album this morning. Though I’m eager to hear the rest of Volcano, I must admit, I’m still obsessing over lead single Certainty. That dissonant streaking, serpentine twisting wonder recently received a wicked transformation under the hands of dance rock faves, Franz Ferdinand, in the form of a darkly mesmeric remix. Franz Ferdinand’s Certainty is near gothic tech at times in its chord progression and stuttering glitchiness, but it retains plenty of the original’s spacey flourishes, too. Every time you listen to this labyrinth of an engaging edit you’ll find new treasure.

August 4, 2014

Dance punk and post punk kings Franz Ferdinand released a video today for their song Stand On The Horizon, off the Scottish band’s album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, the album with which they made a glorious return to the scene in 2013. Any reason to revisit some Franz and watch Alex Kapranos rock out is a good one.

My taste for delicious post-punk will never ever die. As a result, I certainly enjoyed Franz Ferdinand’s return to the scene late last summer with their album Right Words, Right Thoughts, Right Action. Track number six on the album is Fresh Strawberries, a charming tune. I’ll never tire of Alex Kapranos’ deep, distinctive vocals. This week, they released a video for the track, their latest single.

Franz Ferdinand’s next single off their excellent recent album Right Thought, Right Words, Right Action is the jangly Bullet. The video for the track features the band playing the track in a retro and in the round style, which fits the song perfectly. Bullet channels a lot of old Beatles-esque charm.
