The very first time I encountered Flybear I had to pick my jaw right off the floor. He’d just offered up a spectacular cover of James Blake standard The Wilhelm Scream and the future soul rendition was nothing short of brilliant (stream below if you managed to miss it or crave a re-visit). As expected, the Baltimore based producer continued to dole out phenomenal tunes since, and today, we get to dissolve into the textured and finespun beauty that is Hollowed. I’d expect a Flume, Bonobo, Lido, and Mura Masa collaboration to be on par with this dreamy sparkling, dusky enchanting gem. This is the sort of chilled out, ambient tingling tune to take out with you on an evening walk under a dark sky. Bring someone dear to your heart. Together, you’ll stare with wonder out into the star dusted universe, so large and vast, so full of mystery. Your hearts will be soothed as you take each other’s hands and look forward with hope. Hollowed we are no more. The gorgeous track is available from major outlets, here.

James Blake’s The Wilhelm Scream will forever hold a very special place in my heart. It was one of the first songs I ever heard from the at the time just breaking out musical genius, and it’s still one of the most gut wrenching, haunting songs of the past several years. New producer Flybear, who’s based out of Baltimore, gives us a spectacular cover of The Wilhelm Scream that stays true to the original’s dark emotions, but drenched in a stunning future soul deluge of clattering vivacity. This “turned up” version of The Wilhelm Scream is captivating and intricate, a finely nuanced treat that reveals more with each return listen. Flybear’s The Wilhelm Scream is the very first time the 19 year old artist has presented his own vocals on a track. Let this not be the last time, please. Download the cover for free, here.
