Jamie xx DJ set

June 21, 2013

Everyone’s beloved x filled band has been touring in support of their album Coexist lately. Their European leg of the tour was designed the “Night + Day” series with an endless array of other amazing talents joining the lineup. During their stop in Berlin, Jamie xx spun an awesome 30 minute DJ set. Red Bull Music Academy has posted it for us to stream! Thank you, Red Bull! The set features the likes of the late Gil Scott-Heron, Florence and the Machine, the xx (of course), and tons more goodies.

The soundtrack for Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby continues to surface. As a big LDR fan (hate on me if you want), I’m sincerely excited to hear the full version of Lana Del Rey’s contribution to the Jay-Z produced motion picture soundtrack. Here’s her grand, gorgeous song Young & Beautiful. It’s a beautiful, sappy love ballad. I’m ready to go see The Great Gatsby opening weekend. So excited.

Here’s the full tracklist for the OST….

Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby is likely my MOST anticipated film of 2013. As is expected of Lurhmann’s work, the Jay-Z executive produced soundtrack is stupendous, featuring some of my favorite artists. One such act on the soundtrack is Florence and the Machine with this grand, cinematic, powerful track titled Over The Love. It seems to express the plot well, focusing on the “green light” oft alluded to thematically in Gatsby. I can’t wait to catch this film in May and to hear the other songs off the soundtrack in full!

Well, this is interesting! Florence Welch and A$AP Rocky collaborated on a track for the deluxe version of his album “LONG.LIVE.A$AP”. Then again, it’s not too surprising, as Florence has lended her vocals to so many artists’ songs and remixes, from EDM (Calvin Harris) to hip hop (Dizzy Rascal). The song is titled I Come Apart, and it’s not bad at all, probably a grower. I find it kind of light for A$AP, and the grand dramatics is a bit muted for Florence. Still, it’s a cool combo!
