PROM’s Flickers is the first tune I heard from the Brooklyn synthpop duo over a month ago, and it’s still my favorite. Of course, a gorgeous new video means a requisite re-share, especially since the video was shot by the crew of Boardwalk Empire right after the final season of that HBO show ended (sad, I loved it). Flickers is a warm, soaring, and dreamy synth number, full of Ghost Beach mugginess and M83 like dramatics. Incidentally, PROM is signed to Ghost Beach’s label, Crazy Heart Records. The duo’s debut EP, Keeping Company, is out right now, available to stream here.

If you’re itching for vibrant, soaring indie pop music, PROM’s Flickers will satisfy that itch and more. The song is full of dreamy pop flourish and infectious hooks. It’s also the first release off Ghost Beach’s label Crazy Heart Records, and like Ghost Beach’s music, there’s plenty of summery, swirly, synthy warmth on the tune. The boy girl vocals, as always, draw me in with much ambrosial allure.

You’ve probably read my zealous babbling regarding amazing New York musician Son Lux in the past months. If you listen in on his meticulously composed music with its organic, ever changing balance of synths and classical instrumentation, you might wonder about the remix potential of his tunes. Apparently, Canadian duo Zeds Dead wondered the same, because they took Son Lux’s Flickers and created this EDM gem. I’m glad they left Son Lux’s vocals virtually intact, as his vocals are so haunting and other worldly. Paired with the smooth and melodic electronic production, well…. wow.
