Swedish folk troupe First Aid Kit, a favorite of ours for such a long time, have been drumming up a fresh new flood of buzz lately with the songs they’ve revealed from their next album Ruins. Much of the music we’ve heard so far from the album have been extra rustic compared to some of their prior material, but new song Fireworks takes a bit of a turn. It’s a melting dream pop flavored canticle, accompanied by a heavily nostalgic video that pays tribute to the 80s with its idyllic prom setting. Fireworks is without a doubt my favorite new FAK song off Ruins so far, a Beach House meets Lykke Li styled ambler with ample pastoral charm. I’ve been melting away to it since its trademark First Aid Kit harmonies came to light last Friday, and now you can, too. Ruins arrives January 19th, pre-order, here.

Fireworks – Oh, Common Life

April 3, 2014

Detroit pop-punk veterans Fireworks give us a bonus unreleased tune not on their very recent album Oh, Common Life, and it happens to share the same title despite its absence. Oh, Common Life is an acoustic beauty that melted my heart immediately, and I find it unconscionable not to share.

For a fantastic dose of rambunctious pop-punk, check out Detroit band Fireworks and their new single Flies On Tape. It’s off their third studio album Oh, Common Life, out March 25 on Triple Crown Records. The anthemic stomper appealed to me immediately, and as I was not familiar with Fireworks before, it reminded me much of Fall Out Boy, with a touch of Motion City Soundtrack and some Panic.

OFFICIAL VID: Ombre – Cara Falsa

July 25, 2012

Here’s something completely entrancing to float away with. Ombre is the new project formed by Julianna Barwick and Helado Negro. The two musicians are labelmates on Asthmatic Kitty. The duo have a debut album coming out on August 27 titled Believe You Me. As Cara Falsa exemplifies, the project mixes Juliana’s haunting, dreamy vocals with Helado Negro’s blissful, morphing, trippy production and instrumentals. Add in the hypnotizing video with fireworks as visuals, and we’ve got a heckuva summer chill jam.
