You would think, after all the incredibly intoxicating jams that Autograf has given us, that we’d know exactly what to expect from the act, despite their proving their versatility plenty times over in the past. Yet, here I am again, with my jaw agape. The trio from Chicago goes in a whole new direction on their latest, an official remix of Fat Boy Slim’s Mad Flava. The remix, which wil lbe released on June 1st as part of a 15 year anniversary reissue of the legend’s platinum album Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars, is a stunning concoction of breaks and funk. These Autograf fellas are seriously production magicians, able to pull all sorts of riveting electronic sound out of their sleeves. As Fatboy Slim quipped: “Autograf got the finesse, they got the funk, they got the flava. The three F’s right there…”. You got that right, Slim. Of course, what would Autograf be without those marimbas? They add yet another layer of summery, Balearic awesomeness to the remix. This is one of those remixes that gives and gives and gives, with plenty of intricate detail to notice afresh with each new listen.
