New York controversial artist Azealia Banks is readying a new mixtape titled Fantasea II: The Second Wave, and here’s a tasty treat off the release which won’t be out until July 11 next year. Count Contessa is a smooth, electric track about a woman with a man’s physical strength. Interesting stuff and a delightful, sunburst of a listen. The track samples British producer Lone’s Aquamarine.

OFFICIAL VID: Azealia Banks – Atlantis

November 12, 2012

Rapping hipster queen Azealia Banks has a new video for us this week for a song off her Fantasea release. Here’s Atlantis, and it’s some colorful and CGI filled fun. In fact, it totally made reminded me of that Rihanna SNL video that I just watched yesterday where they used a green screen to transform the whole stage into a special effects filled, trippy visual extravaganza. Some were complaining it looked like a Windows 98 screensaver, but I thought it was amazeballs cool and can only imagine how mind blowing it was live. This Atlantis video pretty much rides on the same style of visuals. Screensaver? Sure!

If y’all missed the Rihanna performance over the weekend and have noooo idea what I’m babbling about above, here it is…

OFFICIAL VID: Azealia Banks – Luxury

September 27, 2012

Azealia Banks is clearly becoming a lead fashionista in the indie scene, alongside her gal pal, Lana Del Rey, though with inherently contrasting decades on display. Her most recent videos have been sleek and full of sexy outfits and confident style. In similar vein, the new video for Luxury (Fantasea mixtape) sports that 90’s style easily recognized from her videos for Van Vogue and 1991. It’s hard to believe with all these EPs, videos, and singles out that Ms. Banks still has no debut album on the shelves. The latest rumors are that she’ll have one titled With Expensive Taste drop on February 12, 2013. Please take that with a grain of salt. I have a feeling this date will get pushed around a bit, if not by a lot. With the explosion of how music is marketed and listened to in this day and age, I wonder if eventually there will be SOME artists that will scratch the LP route completely and go with EPs only, as their target audience may be the percentage of the market that chooses to download individual tracks rather than purchase full albums. Interesting thing to wax pensive over… I, for one, am a loyal fan of the LP and the album jounrey, but I can see how this might work better for some artists.

Well lookie here, it’s another nasty tune from Azealia Banks and producer Machinedrum. The collaboration has given us wicked songs so far. Aquababe is off her mixtape Fantasea dropping on July 4. There should be a new video releasing later today too for Liquorice, off the 1991 EP.
