First Aid Kit cover Jack White’s Love Interruption

August 2, 2014

I try not to make it a habit to feature video clips of covers on IHM, but once in awhile, I encounter something that’s too spectacular not to be shared. Quite often, the clips are from Australia’s Triple J radio, since they have a tradition of having bands do covers live on air when they visit their studios. Today, we get to watch Swedish folk sisters First Aid Kit do a transcendental cover of Jack White’s Love Interruption. It’s perfect.

OFFICIAL VID: First Aid Kit – Stay Gold (Acoustic)

June 11, 2014

I’m super duper excited that I received Swedish folk sisters First Aid Kit’s sophomore album Stay Gold in the mail this week, though I haven’t found time to pop it in a player yet. This new video they released for the title track of the album sure prompts me to hurry up my first listen. Stay Gold is such a soaring, moving ballad, filled with poignant emotion. For the video, they perform an acoustic version of the song in sequinned cocktail dresses that somehow capture the melancholic, ephemeral qualities of their music perfectly. What is it about First Aid Kit that’s  so entrancing and magical? Is it their harmonies? Is it the sisters’ undeniable, natural beauty? Is it a certain earnestness that always seems to shine through on all of their music? Whatever it is, I’m always transfixed by their music and performances. I know this holds true for most anyone who listens to their music. I have friends who never listen to folk who, I found out, dig First AId Kit a lot. No surprise, there. Not at all.
