Inventions is an incredible post-rock duo formed by Mark T. Smith of Explosions In The Sky and Matthew Cooper of Eluvium. Together, the talented men compose the most amazing pieces of artful, epic music, as can be heard on their new song Entity, an instrumental tour de force that takes listeners on an incredible, emotional, even therapeutic journey. Inventions is off their self titled album out April 1 on Temporary Residence. You must check out the little teaser trailer they created for the album below, as well. Amazing. I want to listen to this at Burning Man 2014 out on the open desert. It will be perfect…

EitS + David Wingo + Prince Avalanche

June 26, 2013

I love me my indie films, and I love me my post-rock music, so when I saw that Texas post-rock band Explosions in the Sky was scoring the soundtrack for Hollywood film Prince Avalanche along with David Wingo, I was definitely excited. They’ve previewed a two minute incredibly filmed clip featuring some of the music. And. Wow. I can’t wait to catch the film and hear the soundtrack! Check out the quirky Prince Avalanche film trailer here. EitS is likely my favorite post-rock band (as it probably is for so many others). Ahh…now I want to spend an evening listening to cinematic post-rock soon!

OFFICIAL VID: Explosions in the Sky – Postcard From 1952

May 7, 2012

Here it is! That promising video from Explosions in the Sky for Take Care, Take Care, Take Care track Postcard From 1952. Y’all ready for some breathtaking, cinematic, BEAUTIFUL post-rock and an incredibly well made video? Strap yourselves in and get ready for the journey! It’s only very recently that EitS began allowing themselves to release videos to accompany their music. I wonder if it has anything to do with trying to allow listeners to interpret songs on their own rather than having us connect pre-set imagery to any of the soundtrack-to-life type songs they put forth with such brilliance. These Texans are amazeballs.

Happy Thanksgiving

November 24, 2011

thanksgiving

In honor of the US holiday of Thanksgiving, here are a few beautiful post-rock gems. I tried looking for good Thanksgiving songs. The closest to a decent song was Adam Sandler’s comical Thanksgiving Song. Not quite what I was going for. So instead, here’s some post-rock to give you that warm, fuzzy feeling instead. And no matter your status and situation, there must be something every person can be grateful for. So let’s set aside any bitterness and remember the good things each and every one of us do have in our lives, whatever they may be. Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and thanks for all the support.

Poster Process

October 12, 2011

DKNG Studios was asked to create an amazing poster for Explosions in the Sky. They made a tres cool video out of the process, with Explosions in the Sky in the background.

They did one for The Black Keys a few months ago too, with the video utilizing an awesome Tighten Up mashup. According to DKNG Studios: The mix is actually made by the artist “Wick-it the Instigator”. He decided to make the mash up album based off what he thought were the best albums of 2010, which were Black Keys’ “Brothers” and Big Boi’s “Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty”.

post-rock

..with some beautiful post-rock songs. Or to wake up to them as they paint pictures in your mind and take you to such highs and lows while you relate to them in your own individual ways.

Here’s a song from God is An Astronaut. They are playing at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco this Saturday night, August 20th. I was seriously considering going, but don’t think I can make it. Those going, please enjoy for me!

I can’t wait to catch the band Explosions in the Sky live the next month or two, they are likely my favorite post-rock band. Explosions will be at the Treasure Island Music Fest, and also at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, which must be an absolutely breathtaking setting for their music. The Album Leaf and many others are up there on my list too.

Here’s one of my fave EITS songs, the sound quality isn’t the best, and there are good quality uploads on youtube, but you get the raw quality of the live jam. Obviously, you can still tell how moving and awe inspiring the song is regardless.
