Love is but one of many nostalgic sadcore treats off of Lana Del Rey’s epic album Lust For Life. DJDS, aka the Los Angeles production duo of Jerome LOL and Samo Sound Boy (also known together as DJ Dodger Stadium) have linked up with Empress Of to cover the song, giving it a more beatific, dance oriented rendering with a spaciously slick, airy light veneer. The mid-tempo electronic affair is a thoroughly charming new approach on Love, and it comes accompanied by a lyric video. DJDS says they wanted to try their own version, so they put their sound in it to pay tribute to the inspiring song.

Lorely Rodriguez, the much esteemed experimental pop and alt R&B singer songwriter from Los Angeles better known as Empress Of, has some great news for us long time fans of her music. Empress Of has confirmed that a sophomore album is in the works. With the news comes this enchanting gem, Go To Hell, an ethereal burbling, lissome plinking electronic pop beauty. Lorely explains: “This song is very much about a specific thing that happened to me that hurt me and now I laugh with joy every time I hear it. This is the power of music.” Go To Hell, which premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 radio, is available from all digital platforms, here. You can also stream the song off Soundcloud below.

It’s off to Spain we go as venerated producer and songwriter Pional dazzles us with a new track. The Way That You Like is a magnificently textured and deeply hypnotic cut from Pional’s forthcoming EP, When Love Hurts, due out September 30th. Bewitching vocals turned in by Brooklyn’s Empress Of give Pional’s lithe rippling, synth flaring display of dynamism a supple airy, crisp elegant touch. You can purchase The Way That You Like from various outlets, here. Pre-order Pional’s When Love Hurts EP, here.

Miike Snow’s Genghis Khan has quickly become one of my favorite songs in the month it’s been out and about. You can’t deny how wildly infectious it is, and its whimsical cadence and smooth vocals are a superb representation of all we love about the Swedish alt dance trio. Brooklyn’s Empress Of has turned in a firecracking remix of Genghis Khan full of piquant flare and playful edge. As we eagerly await Miike Snow’s next album, iii, out March 4th, I’m more than happy to shake my booty time and time again to this feverish version of Genghis Khan.

I bet it’s been awhile since you’ve heard Katy Perry’s once ubiquitous hit Hot N Cold. But let’s dive back into that song, sass and all, with a glorious cover by Brooklyn’s Empress Of. She turns the pop song into an ethereal creature that sparkles, twirls, chimes, and darts magically. Lorely Rodriguez’s lofty vocals radiate with an enchanting magnificence on the icy electronic pop interpretation. It’s likely one that Grimes and Georgia might approve of, too. The dreamy electropop artist also unleashed a video today for her jagged and entrancing single How Do You Do It, which you can watch below.

Get ready for a wildly effervescent and ethereal experience as we immerse ourselves in a heady remix of Brooklyn dream pop act Empress Of’s Kitty Kat, by, fittingly enough, Feral. The New York producer takes Kitty Kat on a playful romp that brings us along on a magical, spacey journey. It sounds like plenty of catnip is available on the way, too.  Feral’s remix soars and dashes enchantingly. I’m going to have to play it for my cat when I get home and see whether he loves it too.

OFFICIAL VID: Empress Of – Don’t Tell Me

December 3, 2012

Brooklyn musician Empress Of impressed me strongly with her debut single Champagne a month ago. The B-side to that unique, brilliant single, Don’t Tell Me, has a beautiful, simple performance video filmed by Yours Truly to go along with it now. It’s raw, stripped down, wistful, and as authentic as it gets. Lorely Rodriguez has an angelic voice on this piano ballad.

If you missed the synthier, genius, baroque and art pop Champagne, here it is again.
