NYC artist and producer Amanda Steckler sure took her time to release a new single as Blonde Maze. It’s been nearly a year since we last indulged in new music from the pop visionary, but she’s finally returned as of late with a gorgeous and finespun gem named Thunder. Unlike what the stormy song title might suggest, this is a nimble and celestial pop and electronica hybrid with elegant harmonies, breezy marimbas, and refined keys. We’re brought to an island paradise where we find ourselves waxing bittersweet over distant regrets and receding heartbreak alongside Blonde Maze, all the while gazing towards the future through rose colored glasses. The lush aria has reminded people of Lapsley, Maggie Rogers, and The Japanese House. It also sports a dance ready but light and delicate Balearic groove. Blonde Maze returns armed with a plethora of new material and an EP slated for release in 2018. You can stream Thunder as well as Blonde Maze’s other releases via Spotify, here.

I never thought I’d see the day when Slow Magic and Kate Boy would end up on the same track, so Mind is pretty much a dream come true for this devout fan of both the masked producer and the Swedish/Australian synthpop project. We haven’t heard from either of them in quite some time, yet here they are, dishing out energetic thrumming vibes on Mind. Slow Magic showcases his visionary brilliance on the icy glistening, swift shimmering electronic aria, whose other worldly beauty and rich glacial consistency is the perfect scenery for Kate Boy’s bewitching Scandi-pop vocals. Mind fills me with wonder on this cold spring morning. It seems to break us free of all things mundane and push us up towards the stars. Anything seems possible, all of a sudden. Purchase or stream Mind via digital outlets, here.

We continue our journey deep into the labyrinth heart of experimental electronica alongside Alyss, a UK project created by a classically trained singer songwriter and producer. Alyss melds dancehall, R&B, tribal, and pop on her new single T S I E R, short for “This Shit Isn’t Even Real”. T S I E R is bewitching in a titillating manner. It clatters, thumps, wails, and whoops, as if taking us through a magical ritual from which an entrapment spell is cast. T S I E R comes from Alyss’ forthcoming Motherland EP. The single is out now on iTunes.

Only is the first compelling single revealed from Aubergine Machine’s forthcoming EP, Wildlife. This project was formed in 2012 by multi-platinum selling producer Ian Carey and then newcomer to the scene, Shanti Ellis, after realizing they had a complementing capability to create genre-bending electronic music. Their new song certainly illustrates this clearly with its edgy aesthetics and haunting whirring soundscape. Only’s booming hip hop beats, spunky vocals, and tactile production are evocative of Kill J, Elliphant, and even a touch of FKA Twigs collaborator, Arca. Only is out as a single on iTunes.

Transviolet may have just played Reading & Leeds in the UK, but the Los Angeles based quartet manage to find time to unveil a brand new tune, once again hitting a sonic homerun with their bewitching pop. Future is a vivid melding of alt and electro with an aerial sleekness and an elastic bounce as contagious as can be. Sarah McTaggart’s magnetic voice enthralls on this hit ready single which walks a fine line between dance and pop. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the year plays out for this favorite rising band.

Unless you were hiding under a rock yesterday, or spending too much time at the Pokemon Go gyms all day long, then you likely caught the news that dark R&B pop goddess Banks had announced a new album and dropped a new tune. The moment I caught wind of this news in the morning, I was in celebration mode. On September 30th, Banks will release the follow up album to her much adored debut album Goddess via Harvest Records, and the first taste she presents us with from the album is as dark and haunting as she’s ever been. Fuck With Myself comes via a delectably eerie music video too. Banks channels some FKA Twigs, Aaliyah, and Sevdaliza on her latest smoking tune. Fuck With Myself twitches, snarls, and whorls, a menacing sublime, ominous seductive snake of a tune. And it’s available now from various outlets, here.

Lecaudé’s Circles begins with a bubbly synth playfulness reminiscent of Passion Pit before it launches full force into sultry funk and resplendent indietronica. The British solo act was one half of dream pop duo LSBV. As Lecaudé, he brings us an irresistibly hooking and dynamic form of electronic pop, one part Ben Khan, another part RAC, finished off with some Josef Salvat. Circles is the lead and title track from a forthcoming debut EP.

Somehow, it makes total sense that Ellie Goulding is featured on Active Child’s new song Silhouette, considering Ellie Goulding did that stunning cover of his song Hanging On in the past. Los Angeles artist Active Child has a new EP titled Rapor coming out on October 22. He’s been previewing some dang good tunes off the EP for the past few months. I’m eager for it after getting blown away by debut album You Are All I See back in 2011. The EP not only features Ellie Goulding, but we’ve also heard his more upbeat, new wavey collaboration with Mikky Ekko on Subtle. On the slow burning Silhouette, he returns to his shimmery, dreamy, haunting sound. It’s a beautiful piece of music, and Ellie and Pat’s vocals seem made for each other.

OFFICIAL VID: Panama – It’s Not Over

April 24, 2013

Whoa, I just stumbled upon this Aussie band named Panama with a very sweet, smooth synthpop sound and I’m really digging their song It’s Not Over. It’s off an EP of the same title that was released fall of last year off Future Classic, the same label that Flume is on.

They really don’t have much out floating around yet, but here’s another catchy tune of theirs titled Magic. It’s synthy and dancey too.
