Two years ago, we featured a remix of Etta Bond’s Never Seen And Heard Before that featured a new hip hop talent named Ashnikko. Turns out, the London-based rapper has become quite the rising sensation back at home as of late, and her new song Blow is exactly the sort of effervescent, carbonated electropop/hip hop that we find irresistible. The edgy slick, whimsically punchy tune comes with a fresh and quirky video, too. Blow will be on Ashnikko’s forthcoming EP, Unlikeable, which will be out on Parlophone this summer. She explains of the track’s strong message of female empowerment: “‘Blow” starts with ‘Take it off and show them how much you want it,’ which is poking fun at the culture of women being exploited in music. I’m tired of being brainwashed that my body is my biggest asset. And it’s me saying to myself that I will never exploit myself in a way that doesn’t empower me.” Stream/download Blow, here.

Almost Owen is a singer songwriter, producer, and drummer who’s been quietly waiting for the right moment to strike with his music. He’s played festival stages all across the world at the age of 26, and he’s poised to make an imprint now that he’s decided the iron is hot. Hot indeed is his second single, If It Were Me, a compelling blend of pop, hip hop, and electronica that showcases the rising artist’s versatility. If It Were Me, lifted from his forthcoming album Late Night Dangerous, is gritty yet slick, vexed yet seductive… The propulsive and electrifying anthem is a free download on Almost Owen’s website, here.

Kevin George is a name to remember, but even if you’re bad with names, there’s no doubt that you’ll be hearing it aplenty in the future. The 20 year old newcomer is a musician and producer from Connecticut, and he’s already making waves with his first single, High Like This, a self-produced blend of R&B soul, electronica, and hip hop that rises above the endless sea of urban music that has besieged the world as of late. It’s raw and heartfelt, hypnotic and seductive, in a dark moody, solemn and pensive fashion. Kevin George takes inspiration from a very wide range of venerated talent, including Prince and Tame Impala, so you can expect his future releases to be eclectic dazzlers, too. The self contained bedroom artist/producer also released a music video for his first single, which you can view below. It’s a psychotropic trip that befits the song’s title. Kevin George’s High Like This is all the high we need tonight. Stream the debut via Spotify, here.

Atmospheric, dramatic synths surge through our ears and serenade our dark hearts on BK Woe, a fierce yet sensuous hip hop and R&B soul track dripping with desire from Harlem based Melii. Droopy, syrupy electronic production accompanies the 19 year old’s stunning voice. BK Woe is a barbed yet seductive ballad, raw yet refined, ghostly opaque yet burning with a fiery heat. Stream/purchase the song, here, and listen to more of Melii’s music on Soundcloud, here.

Today’s a very special day. Not only is it one of my favorite ghoulish holidays, Halloween, but a surprise new Gorillaz track has surfaced, too! Garage Palace features hip hop sensation Little Simz on guest vocals, and it comes with an awesome animated music video in which she fights zombies alongside the band. The track comes off of the deluxe vinyl release of Humanz, due out as a “Super Deluxe Vinyl Boxset” on November 3rd. Pre-order, here. Garage Palace is available, here.

Lizea Harper is an indie hip hop artist and activist who hails from Minneapolis, and she just released her new album Dive earlier this month. Dive we did, into the seven track release, and captivated we were by her en point delivery and the array of spunky jams and soulful slow burners on the record. You can stream Dive on Soundcloud, here. But for now, let’s jam out to resilient hooking Rise, a resolute anthem of a hip hop track that features additional vocals by Jahkobi Martian and riveting production by BMBU. It’s obvious Lizea Harper is a jewel in the rough, a talent that many have yet to encounter. You can keep up with the artist on her website, here.

I was fortunate enough to finally meet Sidizen King briefly when I was in Austin for SXSW last month, but it was certainly a lot of misfortune that resulted in my having to miss him perform at the fest. We’ve long been enamored with the Los Angeles based artist’s dexterous ability to meld cutting edge electronic and dance sounds with forward thinking hip hop. Plenty of Sidizen King’s previous tracks have gone viral upon release, and now he’s back with another scintillating gem named Roll The Dice. It’s a flawless melting pot in which electro, hip hop, and funk become one. In other words, its another ace jam from this gifted artist. We know we’re never “rolling the dice” when we dive into a new Sidizen King track. They’re sure to be well woven, classy captivating feats. Roll The Dice is a free download, here.

I don’t know what gossip magnate and ex-NBA superstar Dennis Rodman is up to these days. In fact, I haven’t even thought of him since the last time he made headlines by chumming it up with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. But he’s suddenly on my mind now that Mansionz, the newly formed duo of Mike Posner and blackbear, have released a hip hop inspired single named after him. Dennis Rodman even makes a cameo on the song himself. Dennis Rodman, featuring Dennis Rodman, is one swag jam. I would expect no less of a project that involves prolific auteurs like Mike Posner and blackbear. The spunky fresh R&B anthem arrives ahead of Mansionz’ eponymous debut album, slated for release March 24th. Alternate stream for Dennis Rodman via Soundcloud can be found below.

It comes as no surprise that SIDIZEN KING continues to appear high up on the viral charts with each and every new tune he’s released. The astute Los Angeles based artist has pretty much invented his own brand of music by seamlessly executing a hybridization of electro and hip hop music. Plus, he’s proven himself a chameleon of sorts, too, with the diverse sounds he’s given us on his buzz worthy singles. Last Friday, SIDIZEN KING dropped his debut EP, a six track display of said talent. Masquerade is track number three off that record, and it’s a sumptuous jam indeed with Salt Lake City’s Jarrett Burns on guest duty. The slick vibrant electro hip hop found on the tune evokes Theophilus London with a side of Jai Paul’s R&B funk. Masquerade is brisk and stylish, nimble and dashing. SIDIZEN KING’s debut EP, Stuck In The Middle, is out now on iTunes.

Sensational remixes of Snakehips and MØ’s pop hued smash anthem Don’t Leave continue to roll in as London’s Oshi gives us one of the most fascinating edits yet. In fact, Oshi’s remix might be the most fresh and unique re-work I’ve encountered this year so far. Don’t Leave takes on a sprawling vastness as Oshi imbibes it with quivering synths and palpating bass. The track oscillates and warbles, flutters and kicks ruthlessly, taking us along for an chunky electrifying yet fluid rotund ride. Download or stream the jaw dropping remix at additional outlets, here.
