Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist STRØM truly “mesmerized” us with his first single half a year ago. Mesmerize went on to lock in a number one on Hype Machine after impressing tastemakers all around. The single even went on to soundtrack a BMW commercial. He’s back to show us the song was no one-off anomaly with his long awaited second single, Shay-Ling, a bass warbling, guitar curling slice of dark moody, sultry broiling electropop and funk. With an ominous and suspenseful atmosphere, Shay-Ling entices our ears and threads its way into our hearts. STRØM‘s buttery falsettos seduce with a feathery light touch, but the imprint they leave behind marks us as fans for life. There’s no escaping the draw of this slick futuristic pop piece when you combine that with  Shay-Ling’s vivacious 808 kicks and its Jai Paul like opulent groove. Re-visit Mesmerize on Soundcloud, here.

There’s a chance you might not put two and two together straightaway, but trust me, you’ve already been deeply in love with Delacey. Described as equal parts electronic vocalist standout and songwriter extraordinaire, her imprint on the music scene has already been deeply felt through songs like The Chainsmokers’ New York City and Madison Beer’s Dead, alongside features on Markus Schulz’s Destiny and Wingtip’s Walls. The fast rising Los Angeles starlet recently made her solo debut on Nothing Lasts Forever, and it’s already struck a resonant chord with multitudes of fans. Fusing alluring vocals with intricate production, she reels us in with saccharine and celestial, shadowy and spry future pop. Nothing Lasts Forever is out now on Proximity.

We’re long past Valentine’s Day, but we’re more than happy to accept a valentine from Liverpool three piece HAARM, who’ve delighted us with their fusion of electro tinged trip hop and pop in the past. Jaunty new single Valentine arrives with much percussive rolling energy after HAARM’s prior singles have gone viral, racking up over 250K plays on Spotify in but a few months. Valentine will surely continue this trajectory with its spacey synths and contagiously peppy rhythm.

Commenting on the track, the band said: “The song is about a purely sexual relationship, but there’s always that one person that wants it to become something more – it’s a classic unrequited love story. We like to open up with this one when we play live, so we made sure it was our first song at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and on the Bloc Party support dates.” HAARM will be playing their first ever headlining hometown show on October 13th at The Magnet in Liverpool. Their new single will hit the shelves on September 15th.

It’s but a few short days till VÉRITÉ releases her new five track EP, Living, and as we look ahead to May 6th, the NYC based pop artist teases our voracious appetite even more with new song Gesture. VÉRITÉ is evocative and spellbinding on the bold Tove Lo and Banks evoking song, her captivating voice sharply cutting through the song’s darkly haunting minimalist production and scratchy guitar.  The tightly wound song is intensive and dark. Its smoldering coals slowly dig under my skin, but in a welcoming way. In fact, Gesture is growing to be one of my favorites by the rising starlet. VÉRITÉ’s Living EP will be available on iTunes.

Earlier today, I stumbled upon Stay Together, by Los Angeles songstress Madi Diaz, and it’s far too catchy of a saccharine pop song not to share. It’s bright, upbeat, and oh so buoyant. Though fresh on my map, Madi Diaz has been playing shows down in Southern California for some time now, having done a residency at the Bootleg. She’s about to embark on some tours supporting the likes of Wolf Gang and Fitz and the Tantrums, and she has an EP on the way later this year.

Purity Ring – Amenamy (Jon Hopkins Remix)

July 15, 2013

Oh my. This is eargasmic indeed. London ambient electronic producer Jon Hopkins took on Canadian future pop duo Purity Ring’s song Amenamy, and the end result is pure bliss. It’s as if he smoothed out the punchy edges, took out the spacious cavities, and transformed everything into organic, shape shifting, crevice filling liquid. It’s a welcome approach to Purity Ring’s music, which I happen to love very much. Amenamy is off their GREAT debut album Shrines from last year.
