Bellatrix is described as an emerging UK new wave artist, but it’s quickly apparent from her new single Your Blood Only that her music isn’t tethered to one simple genre. She’s edgy and bold on the experimental alt pop piece, a whimsical amalgamation of dance-inducing electronica, tribal percussion, and hip hop infused vocal calisthenics. Your Blood Only is a naughty and mischievous tease that leaves us hungry for more from Bellatrix, who obviously has many a welcome trick up her sleeves when it comes to sonic creativity. The song follows the release of Bellatrix’s debut 2017 EP, Real Stuffed Owls, as well as a debut show at London’s Sebright Arms that sold out a month in advance. She’s quickly verified her status as an artist to watch in the indie scene with her avant-garde pop and exotic magnetism with the new release. Your Blood Only is available from iTunes, here.

Belgian duo New Portals have certainly been a portal to some unique and innovative electronic pop. It’s an edgy glitching, dark rumbling brand of scintillating music they present us with on their latest single, WinterSkin. Icy tinkling keys and The xx like mellow guitar progressions entrance whilst Kate Boy meets AlunaGeorge like spunky vocals bewitch. As we predicted, the buzz is growing on this pair. They just returned from a mini-tour of three shows in New York, where they played intimate gigs across Manhattan and Brooklyn in galleries and rooftop settings. They’ve also garnered huge support throughout the year from Radio 1, particularly from Phil Taggart and Huw Stephens. I have a feeling 2017′s going to be a tremendous year for New Portals.

Denmark’s Soleima unleashed a music video for her phenomenal new single Wasted today to go along with its official singles release. The sun-drenched video is a fine accompaniment to Sarah Mariegaard’s entrancing electronic pop and R&B. The sassy sumptuous, summery contagious tune fuses the kittenish sweet vibes of AlunaGeorge with the edgy Scandipop of acts like MØ and Elliphant. Wasted is available from various outlets, here.
