Last month, a new project named Coolwater Set suddenly arrived with a killer first tune that features prolific producer RAC and California’s JVZEL. I immediately hopped on sharing The Coast, a mellow gliding electro hip hop track that stirred up a lot of buzz from the get go. Little did I know at the time, Coolwater Set is a new endeavor formed by Norwegian producer Autolaser and California superstars Far East Movement. They follow up on that first colossal tune with Dub’s Up, which features hip hop artist Problem and West Coast singer songwriter Whitney Phillips. The wavy rippling, hooking resplendent song brings us an electrifying combination of future bass, electro, hip hop, and R&B. This one has classic written all over it… California classic, that is. It’s laid back beach party vibes all around as we throw up our dubs for this winner. This die hard Warriors fan can’t ignore the fact that Dub’s Up can be interpreted as a celebration of my darling Golden State Dubs, too. Dub’s Up is the second song from Coolwater Set’s The Coast EP, coming soon. The single is a free download, here.

I don’t often use GPS on my phone, but when I do, it normally means I’m lost, or unsure of where I am. Yet Berkeley hip hop and R&B artist Rexx Life Raj sounds very much assured and confident on his new song Handheld GPS, a meditative social media discussion produced by JULiA LEWiS. Handheld GPS is my first introduction to this Bay musician, who’s already been making quite a splash in the scene. Handheld GPS is catchy and smooth, and it boasts endless swagger, too. The track is the first single from this emerging talent’s upcoming debut album, Father Figure. Not only does Rexx Life Raj shout out some Bay locales on the track, he also recently dropped a song named Young Wardell, produced by Ian McKee, a very fitting song to share considering the heated NBA Finals series going on right now. Stream Young Wardell below, and root for my Dubs on Sunday please.
