Last night, the music gods blessed us with another beautiful Beach House song, as well as details regarding the beloved dream pop and slowcore duo’s next album. There seems to be a theme going on with the Maryland pair’s visuals for the two songs we’ve heard off ‘7′ so far. The trippy videos and their black and white patterns even remind me of Beach House’s Zebra. When matched with their dreamy swirling, kaleidoscopic whirling music, I can’t help but find myself wishing for a stereoscopic 360 video from the duo (yes, I recently purchased a Google Daydream VR headset, it’s no Oculus Rift, but it’s still pretty cool). New song Dive is well worthy of diving head first into. It may start fleecy and soft, but robust guitars soon pull us deeper and deeper into a deep rabbit hole, leaving us spinning in exhilaration.

Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will release 7 (probably named so because it is their seventh album) on May 11th. We’ll definitely be looking out for that pre-order link!

Young Canadian artist Raahiem might be the most promising newcomer in the R&B scene right now. The 19 year old, who previously worked with OVO affiliated duo dvsn, is on a sure path to great success as a solo act. The soulful R&B on Raaheim’s second song, Dive, is pure and sublime. His exquisite vocals have a bit of that Rhye androgynous touch and some of The Weeknd’s dark ruddiness. It glides seductively with satin ease through Dive’s foggy luxuriant, murky moist atmosphere. Haunting beats add to this serenade’s flushed entrancing power. Dive follows on the heels of ambient drifting Fear, Raahiem’s first solo single, which you can stream from Soundcloud below.

I was once much addicted to the soothing new age music of Enya, so much so that I have sheet music for some of my favorite Enya songs from my dallying days on the piano. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the Irish artist featured on a brand new electronic dance track, one from Swedish producer Salvatore that also features Alex Aris. I quickly vaulted into Dive, much delighted by its majestic beginnings and its sampling of Enya’s Boadicea. The resulting trap and R&B dazzler is a massively rhapsodic and intense experience. Purchase Dive from various outlets, here.

At first glance, you might think that this act, Blondage, is brand new. In actuality, Blondage is the new name adopted by the Danish electropop duo formerly known as Rangleklods. They make their debut under their new name with a lushly sleek, jungle verdant dance pop song named Dive. The contagiously whimsical song unites Balearic pop with dance funk, giving us a very animated tale about being broke but happy, wild and careless, and suffering the consequences of that recklessness. But it’s a hot summer day, and though it feels as if the world is ending, we just don’t care. Dive’s jaggedly bewitching tropical dance pop is like Lykke Li gone Sofi Tukker, fully alluring and playfully sensual.

The last we heard from Berlin’s YATES, several months back, he’d just dropped a stunning debut single named Mako. Today, he’s back with a new tune named Dive which starts with the slinky beats of earlier Foster The People (a la Pumped Up Kicks) before launching itself into a smooth and dazzling electropop enclave. Dive is a dreamy and rich gem. Listening to it does feel like a plunge into a fluid pool of glistening, swooning bliss.

DIIV rehearsing new song?

June 20, 2013

Geez louise. This is a rough rehearsal of a rough cut of a possible new song titled Dust, but DIIV already makes it sound so dang good! The shoegazey guitars are very much in line with songs off their fantastic debut album Oshin. Zachary Cole Smith’s vocals seem more clear and energetic than ever. And Sky Ferreira is nowhere in sight (ha, had to throw that in, she’s dating Mr. Smith and the two often seem to be inseparable). Word is, new album coming in spring of next year! Yes, it’s still awhile from now. Boo.

ALBUM STREAM: DIIV – Oshin

June 19, 2012

For some airy, surfy, fuzzy sound, stream DIIV’s debut LP Oshin below. The album drops on June 26 to much anticipation; previews have sounded wonderful so far. I’ve gladly shared the previews a number of times recently, so I’m excited to hear the album fresh before it hits the shelves. DIIV, once known as Dive, is the side project of Beach Fossil’s Zachary Cole Smith. The dreamy indie rockers hail from the good ol’ center of hip arts, Brooklyn, NY. Lo-fi shoegaze it away, fellas!

Dive is no longer. Wait, wait, wait… STAY CALM. They changed their name to DIIV, it’s just the name that has been retired! According to member Zachary Cole Smith (also known for Beach Fossils), they changed Dive to DIIV because they wanted to be respectful of 1990’s Belgian band Dive. As you can tell from this new track Doused, Dive, er, I mean DIIV, will continue to put forth immensely satisfying shoegazy beach rock with awesome guitars. Doused is a heckuva good one that got my head nodding all the way through. DIIV’s debut record Oshin will release in June.
