We’ve been fans of Future Classic-signed Australian singer songwriter and producer Hayden James for a very, very long time. In fact, our love for his debut single Permission to Love has never faltered or faded, and it’s still one of our favorites today. So when a new Hayden James song crops up, we prepare ourselves for some true music magic, which is exactly what we get on Just Friends, which features creamy crooner Boy Matthews on guest vocals. Just Friends straddles the line between vivacious dance music and Years & Years like upbeat R&B pop with its pumping bass and incendiary disco beats. Download/stream this glorious Hayden James return, here. Then dance the night away to the friend-zone anthem.

Saturday was a wild one here in San Francisco, with countless frustrating show conflicts. If we could have cloned ourselves and gone to everything, we would’ve have. Unfortunately, prior commitments kept us from hitting up the Chromeo show, which we heard was an epic soiree, with Phantoms opening, too. I’m sure the celebrated Montreal electro-funk and nu-disco purveyors dropped their new single with DRAM, Must’ve Been. And I’m sure it was received with much zeal and a whole lot of dancing. At least we get to get down and groovy to the track anytime we want, now that Dave 1 and P-Thugg have dropped a music video for the song off their forthcoming album Head Over Heels. Summery bongos and Chromeo’s signature electro swagger permeate the proper banger. New album Head Over Heels hits the shelves on June 15th. Chromeo will hit the road on an expansive tour this summer, too. Maybe we’ll get to catch them then and make up for missing their headlining show this past weekend. Must’ve Been is available, here.

I have less than 24 hours to go before I step on my flight to Austin. It’s rather fitting that I’m twisting around in bliss to CYN’s dark dance pop right now, since I’m hoping to catch her once I arrive at SXSW. The magnetic Chicago songstress, who’s signed to Katy Perry’s label, was just confirmed to support SIGRID on her North American tour this April, which means I’ll get another chance to catch her at the sold out show in San Francisco, too. She dazzles us with her glittering pop sensibilities and deeply relatable lyrics on new single Alright, a dance-floor banger of a disco-inflected pop jam produced by Sam De Jong (Gary Clark Jr., 30 Seconds to Mars).

CYN details: “When I wrote this song, I was thinking back on all the notes my teachers wrote on my report cards: would be a perfect student if only she would stop talking, attitude adjustment needed, lacking self-discipline, etc. It’s almost funny to me how harsh my teachers were and how they made the littlest things feel like the end of the world! After what felt like a ton of pressure under a constant magnifying glass, I still did it my way and I turned out alright.” You can grab the single from iTunes, here.

Earlier this month, London’s Yehan Jehan released his new EP, Expansions. For an EP, it’s quite the song resplendent listen, clocking out at eight tracks. Aside from previously featured gooey funk and psychedelic rock jam Phantom’s Beat, Expansions also boasts this cocky strutting, glam twirling disco funk and kaleidoscopic dance rock scorcher, Eat Me Alive. It’s almost like Tame Impala and Portugal. the Man gone French house and Electric Guest on us. Expansions is available from iTunes, here.

We haven’t heard much from French production duo Basic Tape much of the year, and I’d be lying if I didn’t confess how often I’ve wondered what the pair have been up to. Turns out, they’ve been preparing some “cool” funky vibes for us, with creamy South Londoner crooner HUNTAR in tow! Jam out to infectious piano house banger Cool, an upbeat and invigorating, chic and suave club meets pop track that’s anything but “basic”. Hopefully, Cool is a sign of a new string of fine tunes to come from the Parisian duo. Stream Cool via alternate major outlets, here.

If I had my satin jacket with me, I’d certainly don it for this slick grooving new tune from Satin Jackets. The German duo has had a fine 2017 with their string of hit singles, and now they’re back to cap it off with Mirage, a lustrous glimmering earworm of a dreamy disco pop jam. Producer Tim Bernhardt showcases his nimble production skills on the euphoric and weightless frolic, while Den Ishu’s breathy svelte voice entrances us with its sleek beauty. If this melodiously aerated song is a “mirage”, we hope this perfect illusion never fades. Mirage is out today on Eskimo Recordings.

We’ve been waiting an excruciatingly long time to hear a new original from our Australian favorites, Du Tonc, so it’s with much relish that we now dive into Matt Van Schie and Mighty Mouse’s appropriately named new electronic knockout, High. The pair also announced that they’ve finished their long awaited debut album. High is an exhilarating intergalatic whirlpool, with I Know Leopard’s Jenny McCullagh on resplendent backing vocals. Its kaleidoscopic spiral is an iridescent vortex made up of spacey disco and ethereal synthwave. High, despite being a propulsive boost of pure exultant bliss, is also dipped in a pool of wistful melancholia and aching yearning. You can stream/download the polychromatic dazzler, here. We’ll be eagerly awaiting more news regarding Du Tonc’s debut album, and hoping for a tour that will bring them back to California.

When it comes to retro styled synthwave and glitzy prancing disco pop, we can always count on Magdalena Bay to bring the steamy smoldering, glamorous whirling goods. Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Levin are back with tons of fluorescent nostalgia on sassy and dizzying pop bonanza Move Slow. You’ll want to move a whole lot to this one, but it’ll be very hard t o move slow. In fact, this one’s so feisty and chic that it even reminds me of Yacht at times, with a dashing infusion of The Knocks. You can snag Move Slow from Apple, here.

We already know from Keep Chasing Stars a year ago how sublime it can be when Australia’s Skinny Dipp and Andy Crosby of Sound Casino /

Vox Eagle partner up on a song. For a new dosage of that sun bleached, creamy warm tropical disco euphoria, let’s submerse ourselves in Skinny Dipp’s new single, Paradox, which also features Andy of Sound Casino. Its balmy electronica and infectious alt pop is like Foster The People gone Ghost Beach and Miami Horror. It doesn’t feel like summer will ever end when we’re jamming out to this gem, which can also be streamed via Spotify, here. Paradox is a free download, here.

To Moscow we go to re-visit with Pompeya as the duo unleashes upon us a heated disco twirler and smoldering dance rock sweeper of an anthem named Domino via an appropriately neon hued dance video. “Fall like a domino” I probably will once I finish dancing my heart out to the vivacious song, its funky licks, and pumping beats. The Russian pop/funk outfit has served up a sizzling hot jam off of their next EP, which arrives July 14th. Domino is both the EP’s lead single and title track. The full Domino EP was produced by none other than esteemed French house producer Fred Falke. Pompeya will be announcing a new tour shortly, too. I wonder what parts of the world it will be bringing them to, and whether San Francisco might be on the schedule.
