Sometimes, the quiet hours of the evening are best suited for deep contemplation and profound meditation. Our minds roam free and our imaginations run wild as Ryan Lee West, aka Rival Consoles, presents us with stunning visuals and an austerely moving ambient soundscape on Untravel. It could be the very beginning of time, or the end of all time, as we float through the images and notes that pulse and undulate through us. Time could very well not exist right now. The English producer and composer is preparing to release his new album Persona on April 13th, and he demonstrates how effective he is at echoing the hidden emotions of our hearts with his digital construction. Untravel’s other worldly video was directed by Misha Shyukin, who fashioned the clip to accentuate the feelings and themes of in-between states present throughout Rival Consoles’ forthcoming album. You can pre-order Persona from Erased Tapes, here.

OFFICIAL VID: The Octopus Project – Whitby

November 8, 2012

The Octopus Project is an indie pop band from Austin, Texas, and they have a new EP this week titled Whitby. The title single got a royal video treatment and it’s filled with colorful stop motion animation and artsy genius. The song has a very synthy, bright indielectronica pop sound. I can’t help but hear a little Passion Pit in there. It’s an experimental pop of the digital age. The Octopus Project is working on a fifth studio album for 2013.

OFFICIAL VID: Azealia Banks – Luxury

September 27, 2012

Azealia Banks is clearly becoming a lead fashionista in the indie scene, alongside her gal pal, Lana Del Rey, though with inherently contrasting decades on display. Her most recent videos have been sleek and full of sexy outfits and confident style. In similar vein, the new video for Luxury (Fantasea mixtape) sports that 90’s style easily recognized from her videos for Van Vogue and 1991. It’s hard to believe with all these EPs, videos, and singles out that Ms. Banks still has no debut album on the shelves. The latest rumors are that she’ll have one titled With Expensive Taste drop on February 12, 2013. Please take that with a grain of salt. I have a feeling this date will get pushed around a bit, if not by a lot. With the explosion of how music is marketed and listened to in this day and age, I wonder if eventually there will be SOME artists that will scratch the LP route completely and go with EPs only, as their target audience may be the percentage of the market that chooses to download individual tracks rather than purchase full albums. Interesting thing to wax pensive over… I, for one, am a loyal fan of the LP and the album jounrey, but I can see how this might work better for some artists.
