Folk and soul newcomer Jay Brown from London has quickly impressed me and caught my attention with her exquisite song Diamond, off her new EP, My Name Is Her, out now and streaming in full, here. The artist and her stunning music has been compared to the likes of St. Vincent, Torres, and Ben Howard. On tender Diamonds, she brings a serene, gentle acoustic vibe, but with some bittersweet and earthy undertones. Lush, classy strings and Jay Brown’s breathtaking voice serve up a captivating, engrossing experience. Jay’s other songs off the EP vary greatly in sound, showcasing a mesmerizing versatility and intensity. My Name Is Her is available on iTunes, now.

I’m always such a sucker for well crafted, glistening synthpop music. New act MONAKR reels me right in with their debut song Diamond. The new act is a collaboration of some hot indie and production talent, including Gemini Club’s Daniel Brunelle, Hey Champ’s Jonathan Marks, Saam Hagshenas, and Matthew Santos. I love how there’s a shadowy edge to Diamond despite its shiny sheen. The beautifully radiant treat is a first taste off an upcoming debut EP, due out in June and yet to be titled.
Kitten – Diamond
October 17, 2013New Los Angeles band Kitten caught my attention in August with their single Like A Stranger, which was a fiery, energetic track filled with raspy vocals by member Chloe Chaidez. She sounds like a cross between The Jezabels and Charli XCX on the tune. They later released their new EP, from which Like A Stranger was the title track. The vinyl version includes a new tune titled Diamond. Diamond is considerably different from Like A Stranger. In fact, it sounds like a fantastic blend of Beach House and Chromatics with its exquisite dreaminess and padded haziness. Listen to both tracks below.

Loaded Gun
June 6, 2013Not long ago, we heard new single Diamond from Lightning Dust, the side project of a couple members from psych rock band Black Mountain. Loaded Gun is the next new one for us to listen to off their coming album Fantasy, out on June 25. We already found out from Diamond that they’re going for a super synthy electric sound. Loaded Gun cements that with conviction. In fact, the track leans heavily towards italo disco! The synths are pretty sick on Loaded Gun. I’ll reshare the video for Diamonds below as well.

May 22, 2013Canadian indie duo Lightning Dust, a side project of psych rock act Black Mountain, has a new album titled Fantasy coming out on June 25 off Jagjaguwar. Diamond is the great, synthy, new wavy lead single off that album. What is it about synchronized swimming that’s so mesmerizing, anyway?
