Youth is quintessential Daughter, one of the most moving atmospheric folk songs off of the British band’s 2013 debut, If You Leave, one of my favorites from that music glorious year. Who else would be the perfect artist to cover that breathtaking piece than Woodson Black, better known as Haux? Prepare for a heart pummeling experience as Haux presents us with a misty melancholic, gossamer haunting folktronica rendition of Youth. Haux is currently wrapping up an extensive tour in UK and Europe. Find out more about its final dates, here.

If you’ve yet to listen to Daughter’s sophomore album Not To Disappear, you’re making a grave mistake, buddy. Not only does the UK based ambient rock and indie folk band’s latest full length contain the cathartic beauty that they exhibited so indelibly on debut album If You Leave, but there’s something more immediate and urgent about its potent songs, which carry more full bodied power than the majority of If You Leave’s many gossamer tunes. Not To Disappear is certainly on my list of favorite albums so far this year. Today, the band dropped a music video for sweeping album track How. Like their music, Daughter’s video is a riveting cinematic piece, one based off of writer Stuart Evers’ story “5,040″. Not To Disappear is available on iTunes and elsewhere via 4AD / Glassnote Records.

Daughter’s If You Leave was one of my favorite albums of 2013, with its cathartic qualities and beautiful atmosphere. For most people, Youth was one of the stand out tracks off the release, and it was a great pleasure to re-visit the gorgeous song via a remix by East Coast producer Izzard. While the original is already such a breathtaking, wispy treat, Izzard takes Youth into an even more gossamer and ethereal world. It’s a serene minimalist gem, with its enchanting sparkles and a calming stillness.

UK songstress Indiana’s dark electropop tune Heart On Fire is a haunting track, and that edginess has proven itself very handy in the remixes we’ve heard so far of the song. I last shared IYES’ syrupy, twisted remix. Today, I give you a tasty deep house take by another British producer, Duncan Murray, whose hypnotic rendition greatly reminds me of Maya Jane Cole’s productions. For another gorgeous remix by Duncan Murray, check out his remix of Daughter’s Smother, below, from last year.

It’s been ages since I’ve revisited English band Daughter’s brilliant 2013 debut album If You Leave and its sweeping, cathartic tunes. The emotional, melancholic Smother was one of my favorites off the release, and it was a nice treat today when I came upon this bubbly, jazzy, smoky remix of the tune by young Canadian producer Tennyson. It’s a very creative, genius flip that takes the song in a fantastic new direction. Tennyson is one of several new producers I discovered today with very potent talent. Check out one of his mellow originals below, the shimmering, luscious No Answer

English indie band Daughter happen to be playing a show tonight at the Fillmore in San Francisco, though I have to miss the show. That kind of sucks, since Daughter’s debut album If You Leave is one of my favorites of the year. It’s one of the most gorgeous, cathartic album experiences of 2013. At least I caught their set at Outside Lands Music Festival back in August! UK producer Jon Hopkins takes their already atmospheric tune Home and makes it even more enchantingly dreamy and magical in his gentle, floating remix of the track. Listen to the original album cut of Home below.

I’m a huge fan of English band Daughter and their debut album If You Leave. Huge. But you gotta admit, their music can be poignantly emotional and exhaustingly serious. It’s pretty cool that local San Francisco producer Lane 8 has created a lighter, more chill electronic remix of Daughter’s anthemic beauty Youth. It’s a version that starts off tropical, then travels into great deep house regions. It ends with shadowy, spacious post-dubsteppy clickety clackety vibes. The remix is quite a journey in itself.
