As if we aren’t already insanely excited for Lykke Li’s new album ‘so sad so sexy’, the Swedish artist has gone ahead and dropped off these two new treats to stir us into a wild frenzy of agitated anticipation. Sex Money Feelings Die could very well be our favorite song off the album that we’ve heard so far, even though we’re very much in love with Hard Rain, Deep End, and Utopia. Synthpop meets R&B soul on the tune, co-produced by Jeff Bhasker. It even boasts a sparse and spacious trap beat. It’s obvious Lykke Li is going for a more urban influenced sound on her forthcoming full length. Accompanying that gorgeous tune is a collaboration with Portland hip hop sensation Aminé named ‘two nights’ which you can stream below. Lykke’s new music is like Banks’ dark R&B pop meets the tenderness of Wet. We’re not complaining. ‘so sad, so sexy’ arrives June 8th via RCA. Pre-order, here.

Perhaps you somehow missed the news and buzz surrounding this welcome development, but in case you didn’t know, Theresa Wayman of Los Angeles art rock band Warpaint has been releasing some fabulous new music as solo project TT. In fact, she just released her debut album LoveLaws last Friday, and it’s high time we pay homage by sharing its latest single, a murky, muddy trip hop and art pop song named The Dream. It’s a heady Björk meets

treat that I’m very much looking forward to sinking into live when TT headlines Popscene in San Francisco on July 6th (with our French-American favorites Freedom Fry supporting, too). For more tour dates and links to TT’s debut album, head over to her site, here.

One of the first things I did this morning after I got up was listen to the new Nine Inch Nails (whilst doing some planks, because I really need to, because I’m like way too out of shape lately, but I digress). Dark muddy God Break Down The Door raised my heart-rate in an instant. Frantic drums and glowering vocals abound on the wicked track, which even boasts some incredibly spectral saxophone. It’s a song that reminds me of NIN’s stint on Twin Peaks: The Return. It would’ve fit right in with the haunting performance they turned in on the cult television series. I have a feeling Lynch is really digging the new offering, which ventures deep into electro punk territory alongside its industrial electro-rock. God Break Down The Door is our first scowling, snarling taste from NIN’s next full length, Bad Witch, arriving June 22nd on Capitol Records. Pre-order the long awaited return, here. Oh, and by the way, happy birthday, Trent Reznor.

Still very much cloaked in intrigue and mystery is NAVA, though we have learned a little bit more about the artist since she made her debut last month with mystical RITUAL. As it turns out, NAVA is a solo project created by Nava Golchini, and the Milan based Iranian singer songwriter has followed up her first single RITUAL with another left-field experimental electropop work of art named NAVIGATE. Navigate we do, through its razor-sharp tribal drums, dark nomadic synths, and skittering trip hop beats, absolutely delighted by an enigmatic soundscape and its icy opaque threads. Like RITUAL, NAVIGATE is a near spiritual, thoroughly imaginative experience that evokes Fever Ray and Kill J, but less caustic and more inquisitively meditative. Re-visit our RITUAL feature, here, as we await further treats from this bewitching sonic shaman.

There’s nothing hard about loving Drew and her new single Hard To Love. In fact, we’ve fell head over heels for the song the moment her robustly potent, deep sonorous voice hit our ears in its opening bars. The Danish-Welsh siren delivers a fiery punch with the dynamic track, which melds stringy strums with dark sinuous electronic production. Drew, formerly one half of DrewXHILL, graced IHM with her solo debut over two years ago before disappearing for quite some time. But it feels like she’s here to stay this time around as she scintillates us with her R&B pop on heavy hitting Hard To Love. At least, we sure hope so.

We love what Turntable Kitchen has been doing with various artists, teaming up with them to release full covers of classic albums and artists on vinyl. The latest such ear turning foray involves Washington, D.C. indie duo GEMS, who’ve chosen to cover John Lennon’s LP Imagine in its entirety. Crippled Inside is the latest single they’ve shared from the project. We never expected to hear Lennon in quite such a fashion, but GEMS has created a gorgeously dark electro/alt-pop rendition of Crippled Inside, inflected with shades of breathy Phantogram and hints of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill. Deliciously warped synths adorn the sensuously bewitching cover. GEMS’ cover of John Lennon’s Imagine is available exclusively from Turntable Kitchen’s SOUNDS DELICIOUS vinyl subscription service, here.

Mysterious new alt project outsideOUTSIDE blew us away last month when they emerged from the shadows with a spectacular first single named Habits, whose crestfallen mixture of dusky electronica, glitchy shuddering vocal bass, and raspy aching emo alt rock was nothing short of fresh and brilliant. I immediately marked them as a band to watch off that one single. Re-visit our feature of the track, here. On the heels of that debut comes a moody remix/cover of Lil Xan’s Betrayed. It’s obvious our convictions about this project are on point. Their rendition of Betrayed is dark and nebulous. Its muddy bristling vehemence is interspersed with aching keys, resulting in a slow burning yet intensely gripping listen on which outsideOUTSIDE incorporate elements from hip hop, alt rock, and cinematic vocal bass with laser precision. The track is available for free, here. We can’t wait to hear what outsideOUTSIDE has up their sleeves next.

We’re immensely grateful we live in a world where some of the best in new music gets dropped right in our laps by hard working musicians and talented artists. Thank you, ggnoaa, for sharing your first single No Education with us. The electro-pop duo from Tel Aviv consists of 15 year old singer Noaa and producer Oren Emmanuel. And they’ve captured our hearts with a song both pitch-black dark and blazing hot like fresh burnt cinders. Noaa’s scratchy, smoky voice drives No Education’s inky bewitchment. Slow coiling synths, thunderous drum claps, and a labyrinthian electronic soundscape create a tense and suspenseful aura. R&B pop is fused with experimental electro-pop on the track, which channels slivers of Kill J and Banks. You can follow ggnoaa on Twitter, here, where we hope they’ll be announcing more music soon.

Better late than never, right? Especially when it comes to this sultry simmering treat from Daisy Gray, which we must have missed out on because we were running our legs off in Austin at SXSW. What’s even more astonishing about previously missing out on this rising sensation is the fact that she hails from right here in San Francisco! The budding singer songwriter graces us with her torrid burning, passionately seductive voice, a truly powerful force to be reckoned with, on debut single Saviour, whose video has already racked up over a quarter million streams since late March. In a locale where a ton of indie rock and electronica is flourishing, Daisy Grey’s just the talented pop addition we need to add to our diverse music-scape, a savior indeed. We can’t wait for her to be the star she’s obviously ready to be. Download/stream Saviour, here. Listen to her smoky sensual cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game below and continue marveling over Daisy Gray’s voice.

A mysterious new project named NAVA is turning heads and perking ears with their imaginative brand of electronic pop. They dish out a left of center form of icy dark, visceral raw music on RITUAL. Even the song’s music video seems steeped in mysticism. RITUAL’s pounding drums, and its sharp jabbing, caustic twisting repertoire of spine-tingling elements feels nothing short of spiritually ceremonial. Jungle and industrial are interwoven into the track’s electronica. The resulting fusion, alongside NAVA’s bewitching vocals, are like a blend of Kill J with Fever Ray. Though NAVA only has one Instagram post to date, you can keep up with the enigmatic newcomer(s), here.
