MISSIO’s music is dark and grand, intense and gripping. As such, I couldn’t help but wonder how well they’d fare in the adept hands of gifted producers. What kind of remixes could arise from songs like Middle Fingers or Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea, so sprawling and vast, vehement and fierce? Our answer for the latter comes in the form of this cinematic remix by Colorado and Jersey duo DIV/IDE. They mix future bass with deep house on the visceral and hypnotic edit, a guttural thriller that takes us on a breathtaking journey through shadowy landscapes and down into the deepest chasms of the ocean, where no sunlight exists, and where we dance with the strangest creatures of the sea. DIV/IDE’s remix is a free download, here.

In case you missed this treat late last week, let’s dive into the wonderfully eerie music video for ZHU’s Exhale/Stardust, featuring blood red forests and spectral images, as well as a strange and bizarre turn into a corporeal spectacle. Both Exhale and Stardust are lifted from the celebrated producer’s EP, stardustexhalemarrakechdreams. The video’s striking decadence and cinematic grandeur complements ZHU’s trademark dark and graphic style of house music. Grab the EP these songs are off from, here. Side note: can someone tell me why The Weeknd and ZHU haven’t officially collaborated yet?

Turns out, Strange Talk’s Gerard Sidhu and Stephen Docker are electro house knights on top of being princes of synthpop and indie electronica. The Australian duo has launched a new project named Knightfall, inspired by French house legends Daft Punk. After working on nothing but Strange Talk for the past 7 years, the pair have decided to take a break to pursue their other love, French electro house, having grown up on a diet of Daft Punk, Justice, Sebastian, and Kavinsky. So here they are with sleek Watching Me, a fresh preview from Knightfall’s debut EP, VOLUME 1. Creamy seductive falsettos and dark riveting house create a The Weeknd meets Daft Punk like effect. The sexy thriller of a dance jam is available from iTunes, here. Stream prior singles Exodus and Speed Machine on Soundcloud, here.

I gladly re-visited The xx’s latest album I See You whilst I was out in the beauty of the wilderness a few weekends ago after a long time away, and I was quickly reminded of how immense a release it is. On Hold is one of the album’s stand out tracks. Who else, but Jamie xx himself has given the song an unexpected remix that emphasizes the trio’s brilliance? On Hold gets a hypnotic and glorious workover brimming with Jamie xx’s signature underground sound. Step into the dark club, get on the dance floor, and contort your body in visceral pleasure to the remix, which even comes with a freshly minted music video. Jamie xx’s remix of On Hold is available now on limited 12″ white vinyl from The xx’s store, here.

Savage and visceral indeed is Trust Me, a sublimely hypnotic collaboration between Swedish dance producers Adrian Lux and Savage Skulls. But Trust Me is also dark and melodic. It’s a bewitching four to the floor thumper with a sliver of eeriness and an icy undercurrent in its dusky beats and its spellbinding vocals by Soul. The deep house thriller is out now on Spinnin’ Deep. Download/stream, here.

You know we’re in for a mighty fine treat when a remix of Flight Facilities by Joe Goddard crops up. The gifted producer and beloved member of Hot Chip and The 2 Bears has given Flight Facilities long awaited recent single Arty Boy an swirly entrancing deep disco house re-fix that leaves us with a strong urge to hit the dance floors with our very best dance moves on this fine Friday night. Joe Goddard’s remix is dark and visceral, yet glamorous and flashy. Flight Facilities explains: “Joe has always been an inspiration of ours, whether it’s as himself, 2 Bears or Hot Chip. We’re over the moon to have his interpretation of Arty Boy out in the world: Out now:”

The blood in my veins pump profusely and intensely to the pulsating beats of this magnificent new remix of Kill The Noise’s Without A Trace. At the helm of this release is fast rising production talent REZZ. Plunge into her darkly hypnotic, breathtaking atmospheric edit and lose yourself in its slick groove and meditative allure. She seamlessly combines techno and deep house on the thrumming gem, punctuated with ambient moments of pure grace. The remix is a free download, courtesy of OWSLA, here.

Louisville based producer Amtrac, who recently gave us a spectacular remix of Fred Falke’s It’s A Memory, gets a remix of his own masterful electronic music in the form of Durante’s interpretation of Long Nights. The Los Angeles producer’s Long Nights is somber and heavy, a yawning chasm of dark techno and deep house. I wouldn’t mind if this long night never ended, though that sunrise will chase away the shadows and breath new life into me.

There’s something about Lana Del Rey’s sadcore, melancholic music that lends itself perfectly to darkness. In fact, darkness lurks within her music. Washington producer BLVCK CEILING brings out the inkiness of Lizzy Grant’s Honeymoon hit, High By The Beach, on a haunting and thrilling remix. Gossamer vocals, droning synths, and spacious echos call for my twisted heart on the sinister confection. Download the simultaneously chilling and searing remix direct from BLVCK CEILING’s Soundcloud.
