We don’t really believe LINES when they name their song “We Will Never Rule The World”. I’m pretty sure with some sly planning, the Swedish project could take over the globe with their kinetic music. Just listen to LINES’ razor-sharp new single, a prickly slicing dance pop and dark electro-pop jam with thrilling industrial undertones. We Will Never Rule The World features female noise rockers Dolores Haze on guest vocals. They add a whole lot of spice and spunk to the already feisty chopper of a tune. LINES music has been described as “unadulterated euphoric nihilism”. We Will Never Rule The World is easily the quintessential embodiment of that statement with its pulsing beats, frenetic synths, and vociferous vocals. Listen to LINES’ music on Spotify, here.

Dark bewitchment abounds on Burn, a magnificent and dramatic future R&B, trap, and bass opus from talented producer Madeaux. An all star crew of musicians join him on the track, including satin voiced New Yorker, Josh Pan, London seductress FiFi Rong, and new artist on our radar, HOLLY. This four way contingent casts an opaque spell on us with their edge-of-the-seat dusky thriller. Serpentine whizzing synths, sultry drawling vocals, and climactic percussion draw us into their tumultuously blistering world, dripping with longing and anguish. Burn brings together the sharp textures of Arca, SOHN, and What So Not with the sonic sorcery of BANKS and Sevdaliza. The song is the latest single off Madeaux’s album BURN, out now on Fool’s Gold. Rising alt pop sensation Caitlyn Scarlett is more than bewitching with her new single Happy When, a dark entangling, hauntingly emotive track produced by Fred Cox (Rag’N’Bone Man, Anne-Marie, Raye). It’s a fierce and gusty, sinuous and seductive taste from her forthcoming EP, Red Tape Vol. 2, due out later this year.  Caitlyn details the video: “The visual for ‘Happy When’ was something I wanted do get right but also keep subtle, because the song is written with a vague sarcasm to it and it’s true nature is to poke holes in some really unhealthy attitudes our society has towards romance. In the video we see someone (me lol) who is remaining alone by choice, wary of the downsides to relationships and also more comfortable doing their own thing. We also blew up a bunch of roses which was pretty neat, I was lucky to keep my eyebrows thanks to those yellow glasses.” Happy When is like a fine blend of Zella Day and Banks, and it certainly seems an auspicious arrival for fans of the UK artist who are hoping for a huge year for the ascending star. It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but tomorrow night, IHM finally gets to take in the wondrous sounds of Australian-based, Netherlands-born, Iraqi-Syrian singer songwriter WAFIA live. She’s out on the road after having just released her new EP VIII, and she’s making her San Francisco debut at Popscene. I predict a transcendental, heart rending experience and a superb Friday night of live music. The 24 year old musician serenades us with grace and beauty on The Ending from her new EP. The track even features a guest cameo by FINNEAS, the gifted artist and brother to pop wunderkind Billie Eilish whom we’ve eagerly featured many times in the past, too. The Ending is a heart wrenching ballad and an understated lullaby built on heartbreak and anguish. Tender keys trickle next to WAFIA’s svelte voice. There’s a fragility to be found in The Ending, an ephemeral beauty that sweeps us off our feet. It’s a gorgeously balletic song that evokes British project RITUAL with its supple orchestral flourishes and aching vocals.

Wafia says of her new record: “Writing this EP, I got really obsessed with the realization that nothing I ever make will be tangible. Even my voice, the only instrument I use, is intangible but so are any feelings and emotions that I write about. VIII is an exploration of that, as well as necessity and transparency.” VIII, out on Future Classic, can be streamed on Soundcloud, here. Support via other platforms, here. Bellatrix is described as an emerging UK new wave artist, but it’s quickly apparent from her new single Your Blood Only that her music isn’t tethered to one simple genre. She’s edgy and bold on the experimental alt pop piece, a whimsical amalgamation of dance-inducing electronica, tribal percussion, and hip hop infused vocal calisthenics. Your Blood Only is a naughty and mischievous tease that leaves us hungry for more from Bellatrix, who obviously has many a welcome trick up her sleeves when it comes to sonic creativity. The song follows the release of Bellatrix’s debut 2017 EP, Real Stuffed Owls, as well as a debut show at London’s Sebright Arms that sold out a month in advance. She’s quickly verified her status as an artist to watch in the indie scene with her avant-garde pop and exotic magnetism with the new release. Your Blood Only is available from iTunes, here.

It’s a mighty fine few days for this long time Grace Mitchell fan, who first fell for the singer songwriter from Portland well nearly four years ago when she released several gorgeous ballads at the young age of 16. It was obvious then that she harbored a crazy amount of talent. Grace was soon at the tip of every tastemakers’ tongues after releasing edgy offerings like Jitter and NoLo. Not only am I elated today that Grace Mitchell has announced an intimate Popscene show in San Francisco on January 23rd, but I’m rejoicing at the arrival of an explosive new single named RIIICH, too. RIICH is a firecracker of a pop banger co-written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, and it heralds the arrival of Grace’s debut “playlist”, 21 & Motley, out now via Spotify. Festering pop, dark electro, and blistering rock collide with gripping ferocity on rumbling, whirring RIIICH, which is yet another fine example of Grace Mitchell’s genre defying, sonic fusing capabilities. New seven track release 21 & Motley is a collection of Grace Mitchell’s releases this year. It can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

Venir in Spanish means to arrive, and Stereo Off have made one glorious arrival with their new tune, the second single from the NYC outfit’s EP III, due out February 3rd. The three piece band, which formed as a solo project in late 2012, have evolved to fuse indie rock with classical and electronic influences on their new music. There’s no denying a New Order like draw on Venir, a slick pulsing, digital thumping, italo disco infused dark punk wave delight.

It’s a busy Monday morning after a very tiring music festival weekend, but this remix of NYC artist BOYSLASHFRIEND’s Off That by Belgium’s Dave Luxe breathes new life into me with a dark electro tinged take on the original’s sensual atmospheric R&B. The crisp captivating, elastic cascading gem comes off of BOYSLASHFRIEND’s The Low Key Remixes package out on FeelUp Records. The original was produced by MNTN and it can be found, here. The full remix package is available now on BitTorrent.

Danish duo Blondage (previously Rangleklods) return as ravishing as ever on new song FLF, a bewitching and spellbinding dark electro jam with some smoldering R&B accents. It’s almost as if Crystal Castles and FKA Twigs partnered up on a dreamy pulsing alt electro aria. FLF leaves my skin tingling and my heart racing, capturing the urgent and desperate effect of falling utterly and totally in love. FLF will be on Blondage’s self titled debut EP, out September 16th via Tambourhinoceros.

There’s no staying in control when assaulted with the throbbing beats, kittenish fire, and jagged synths of In Control. The dirty dance pop track comes from London based singer songwriter DOLLS, or Nikki Milovanovic, who links up with British producer Fauxplay on the song. Dark and edgy In Control combines Gwen Stefani like mischievous vocals with much gritty Justice meets Chromatics electro alongside plenty of 80′s Madonna or Michael Jackson new wave. In Control is the first delicious single from DOLLS + Fauxplay’s upcoming album EAT IT UP, out May 20th.
